From 1999 until his retirement in 2013, Georg Hey represented the department of "Special Aspects of the Theory and Practice of Social Work" at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences and, as founding Dean of Studies, helped to establish the Social Management and Health and Social Work degree programmes.
The university has lost a committed professor and friend in Georg Hey.
