Citavi supports students and researchers in all stages of working with academic literature. It starts with research.
Citavi opens the door to over 4000 library catalogues (also our OPAC) and Specialised bibliographieswhose data can be saved for further processing with a click.
And even if you have books piled up on your desk, you don't have to type out the titles: If the books have a ISBN (International Standard Book Number) - all books since 1980 have them - this number is sufficient, and Citavi provides all the necessary information from the internet: Author, title, publisher, year and often also the cover graphic and a brief summary of the contents.

Citavi brings first of all Tidying up the literature collection. Not every text needs to be edited immediately and in the same way.
With Citavis Task planning can be used to specify what needs to be done with each essay or book and by when. At the touch of a button, this becomes a task list for the next visit to the library.
The decisive factor, however, is what you do with the information you collect. In Citavi this means "Knowledge organisation":
Essential information must be separated from non-essential information and linked to existing knowledge. Citavi provides several Tools ready. The literature can be easily indexed and categorised. The most important quotations can be extracted from each text, systematically organised and linked to your own ideas, thoughts and initial text drafts. In this way, a body of knowledge tailored to the work objective grows continuously.

A presentation, exam paper or publication is the final step in the work process. Citavi works with almost all word processors - including LaTeX editors. With one click, the collected quotations, thoughts and references are in the text. Citavi creates automatically the list of cited literature.

• Working memory: at least 1 GB RAM, recommended 4 GB RAM.
• Operating system: Windows 10 or newer with .NET Framework 4.8.
• Attention: The Citavi software does not run on Windows XP, iOS or Linux. For these operating systems you can use the Citavi Web App (https://citaviweb.citavi.com/).

1. Download the Citavi 7 setup (citavi.com/download).
2. Uninstall older versions of Citavi. Your projects and settings remain unaffected.
3. Install Citavi 7 and log in with your Citavi account details.
   Please use your university e-mail address. Forgotten your password? You can reset it using the login form (citavi.com/login).
4. The Start Assistant helps you to convert your old projects to the new Citavi 7 format. Citavi's Word Add-in copies your Word document the first time you open it and converts the fields it contains for Citavi.

Citavi is a Windows programme, an installable version for macOS is not available.

However, there is a Web version, which allows you to work with cloud projects using a modern browser (Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari, etc.). The connection to MS Word is established via the Citavi Assistantwhich can be added in the store (for Windows and Apple).

The created literature projects can be saved locally on your computer, on a network drive, a central server or an external hard drive / USB stick as well as a cloud storage.
