Environmental and Recycling Technology - URT Praxis PLUS

Dual study programme with in-depth practice

Do you want to protect the environment and develop technologies that simplify recycling and reduce environmental pollution? With a degree in environmental and recycling technology, you will learn all the knowledge an engineer needs on the job market.

The Environmental and Recycling Engineering program focuses on interdisciplinary methods for protecting the environment and recycling raw materials. New technologies for secondary raw material extraction (e.g. recycling of electronic devices), energy extraction from waste (e.g. biowaste, substitute fuels), methods for reducing air pollution, wastewater treatment, technical measures for water, soil and noise protection as well as the metrological recording and monitoring of pollutants and environmental damage, future-oriented techniques for the effective use of renewable energies (e.g. biofuels), use of molecular biotechnology for sustainable environmental prevention, remediation and production show the range of environmental and recycling technology.

Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is one of the few universities in Germany where you can receive an overarching education that includes biological, chemical, mechanical and thermal process engineering. The specialization is recycling technology.

In numerous laboratory practicals and excursions, you will learn how different processes and techniques are implemented in practice. Particularly attractive is the new in-house research center "ThIWert" (Thuringian Research Center for Recyclable Materials) where industry-sponsored, practice-relevant research projects are tinkered with together with students. Cooperation takes place with small and medium-sized companies in the region as well as with large companies beyond the region.

With this internationally recognized bachelor's degree in Environmental and Recycling Technology, which is in great demand due to its very high practical relevance, you can become active worldwide or opt for a more advanced master's degree program - Environmental and Recycling Technology.

If you are curious about how the recycling of raw materials succeeds, what state-of-the-art environmental technology means, and you are always ready to question what exists, then the Environmental and Recycling Technology degree program and Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences are the right place for you.

You can't decide whether to start a vocational training or a study? Then a course of study with in-depth practice could be interesting for you!

This study model combines the advantages of scientific studies with the benefits of in-depth practical phases in a company.

Here, students and companies benefit equally. At Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, "URT Praxis PLUS" will therefore be offered in the Environmental and Recycling Technology degree program from the winter semester of 2023.

Graduates of this practice-intensive course of study will have a high-quality academic university degree (Bachelor) and a tailor-made practice plus. This means you are theoretically and practically fit for entry into the company.

For companies

The idea behind this dual study option "Environmental and Recycling Technology Praxis PLUS" is to combine theory and practice in such a way that students and companies benefit equally. This results in the following advantages from the companies' point of view:

  • They benefit from the research competencies of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences through cooperations within the ThIWert (Thuringian Innovation Center for Recyclable Materials) .
  • Students use their academic knowledge effectively for your company already parallel to their studies.
  • You receive highly qualified, academically trained employees whose practical know-how is tailored to your company.
  • Graduates build a strong bond with your company right from the start.
  • Your future needs for successful specialists and managers are optimally met.
  • You develop close contacts with universities and thus support technology and knowledge transfer.
  • Your company becomes more attractive to the best and your corporate image increases.

Advantages for prospective students

No numerus clausus

With us, it's the personal interview that counts. Together with the company of your choice, we find out where your interests and strengths lie.

Classes and numerous laboratory practicals in small groups

Our instructors provide hands-on training in theory as well as in the laboratory in small groups.

Network of practice partners

We bring students and companies together in a targeted manner.

Paid study

Your practice partner will pay you a salary from the first month so that your livelihood is secured for the entire study period.

Dovetailing theory and practice

Study, work and leisure - all interlocked and thanks to regular alternation between theory and practice you apply what you have learned directly in the practical phases. Intensive practical phases (semester breaks; practical study semester in the 6th FS with scientific work and the final bachelor thesis in a company of your choice) accompany the studies.

Is an environmental and recycling technology degree right for me?

You always wanted to develop technical innovations that improve the environment?

You are interested in raw materials as well as their recycling and would like to plan corresponding plants? You want to make a contribution to sustainability?

Then the study of environmental and recycling technology at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is just right for you! Best of all as a dual study program "URT Praxis PLUS" with one of our practice partners.
