Leaving traces - A community action

"Leaving traces" is a joint action of students of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences and local non-profit partners to sustainably promote mutual integration through active participation/participation. This initiative was launched in 2013 by 3 students. Since then, it has taken place every year during the introductory week for the new freshmen students at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.

We are...

an interdisciplinary organization team of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, consisting of students and university staff.

What is done...

"Leaving a mark" is an action day that is an integral part of the university's official student induction days.

On one of the introductory study days, the new students are sent to non-profit organizations to implement concrete projects together on the basis of civic engagement. For one day, students can volunteer and become active in a wide variety of institutions. They can choose from a wide range of activities: from helping out in the orchard and park maintenance to handicrafts, conducting interviews or knocking down walls.

The video shows an insight into the fourth action day of Leave a Trace in October 2016. This video can also be viewed on the university's Youtube channel.

Target...

of the Action Day is to bring students into contact with non-profit organizations in Nordhausen right at the beginning of their studies and to facilitate their entry into student and everyday life in Nordhausen.

Further goals are:

  • Assume social responsibility through active participation,
  • to continue contacts,
  • to get to know the variety of civic engagement in the living environment,
  • (Experience) exchange and meeting in a special context,
  • to get to know the region of Nordhausen from a different perspective,
  • to learn with joy and euphoria in a playful way and to make a difference,
  • to be a role model, to engage in voluntary/voluntary work while studying,
  • and having fun,

which results in students having increased motivation for their studies and feeling more connected to the university and the Nordhausen region.
