At Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, committee elections take place every year. But which committees are there and what are they responsible for? What good reasons are there for getting involved in a committee? When can I submit election proposals and when does the online election take place?

Which committees are elected at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences and what are they responsible for?

University Assembly

The University Assembly is the highest decision-making body of the university and a self-governing body. The University Assembly is democratically elected and consists of members of all groups represented at the university. The ex officio members of the Presidential Board, the presiding members of the deaneries, the Equal Opportunity and Family Representative, the commissioned person for diversity, the presiding member of the Staff Council, the presiding member of the Student Council as well as the representative for severely disabled persons belong to the University Assembly.The University Assembly assumes legislative tasks and issues regulations and statutes of the university, decides on structural and development planning as well as the principles of resource allocation. In addition, the University Assembly elects the members of the Presidential Board and comments on the appointment proposals of the departments for filling professorships.

Departmental Councils

The departmental council represents the interests of the members of the department. It is made up of members of the professors, students and employees of a department.The core tasks of the departmental council include:

  • the election of the chairing member of the dean's office as well as two further members
  • the participation in the establishment of new courses of study and the range of courses offered
  • the development of study and examination regulations
  • the distribution of finances for research and teaching, e.g. for the latest laboratory equipment
  • the adoption of resolutions on the appointment of professors, and
  • the coordination of research projects and focal points as well as the promotion of young scientists.

 

Participation in the departmental council offers opportunities to help shape the development of the university and provides a wide range of scientific insights into various areas.

Advisory Board for Equal Opportunity and Family Issues

The Advisory Board for Equal Opportunity and Family Issues enforces equal rightsin connection with the Thuringian Equal Opportunity Act and the equality of men, women, and persons of the third sex. It meets online twice per semester in fixed periods of time not exceeding 60 minutes. The Advisory Board supports the Equal Opportunity and Family Representative of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences as well as her deputy and consists of one representative each from the group of professors, employees and students. The advisory board discusses current issues concerning the equal opportunity policy at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences (equal opportunity plan or equal opportunity strategy of the HSN), as well as approaches to solving possible conflict issues (discrimination) . The HSN is also part of the Thuringian Competence Network for Equality, which is especially committed to promoting women in the MINT subjects. In this context, the Thuringian Campus Tour for schoolgirls is held annually. One focus is the topic of the "family-conscious university". To implement this focus, the (now digital) Family Card was introduced, which includes discounts for students or employees with family work. A welcome voucher with HSN bibs for newborns is also issued. The Advisory Board is very concerned with supporting the compatibility of family and studies or employment at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.

Staff Council

The Staff Council is elected by the employees, is a part of them and their representative. It meets regularly to discuss motions submitted or the current situation at the university and to pass resolutions. Through the Staff Council, employees are involved in internal decisions within the department. Conflicts of interest are mediated and discussed, for example, in staff meetings. The Staff Council ensures that all protective regulations applicable to employees are observed. The Staff Council represents the interests of all employees, mediates, assists, participates in decision-making, monitors and serves as a point of contact for all official matters.

Council of Assistants

A member of the Assistant Council shall have the right to attend, make motions, and speak at Staff Council meetings. There is a right to vote in all matters concerning assistants.

Doctoral Students' Representative Council

The doctoral students' representation of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is the representation of interests of the doctoral students and represents all doctoral marginal students who work on their doctoral project at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. The doctoral students' representation enables an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental exchange on matters relevant to doctoral studies and thus contributes to the promotion of an interdisciplinary, cooperative and international doctoral culture at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. The work of the doctoral student representation makes the work of doctoral students at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences visible internally and externally.

The tasks include:
  • Formulating and representing the interests of the doctoral student body at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences and making recommendations in all matters concerning them to all bodies and committees of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.
  • Promotion of networking and exchange of doctoral students
  • Promotion of structures for a professional support of the doctoral students among each other (e.g. writing workshop, internal colloquia)
  • Support for doctoral candidates in matters concerning the doctoral process at the request of the doctoral candidates
  • Assistance and advice for those interested in doctoral studies
  • Support and networking of former doctoral students of the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences
  • Organization of further education concerning the doctoral projects of the doctoral candidates
  • regular exchange with the doctoral representatives of the university

Student Council

The Student Council (StuRa) represents the interests of the enrolled students. It takes care of the political, professional, social and cultural interests of the students and supports academic and professional initiatives. The StuRa promotes the political education of the students and maintains national and international student relations.

Student Representative Councils

Student councils represent the interests of the students of a particular student body. The student council is responsible for the students' subject-related concerns. It organizes introductory events for freshmen and hosts student council parties, for example. The student representatives also advise students on social and organizational issues.
