Everyone who applies to a university in the Free State of Thuringia and has to attend a preparatory college takes a preliminary test before the actual entrance test takes place.

Those who successfully complete the pre-test will receive an invitation to the entrance test. This is held at the Staatliches Studienkolleg in Nordhausen, Weinberghof 3. The points achieved are used to produce a ranking list according to which our places are allocated.

Applicants who submit a conditional acceptance letter for the M, T or W course must take a test in German and maths.

Applicants who submit a conditional acceptance letter for the G/S course or DSH course must take a test in German.

The pre-test will be cancelled for winter semester 2026. There will only be one entrance test. Each registered participant will be allocated an appointment within the period specified below.

    • received: Application has been successfully received.
    • In progress: Application is currently being processed by the staff.
    • Valid: Your application has been reviewed and you are allowed to take the entrance test.
    • excluded: Your application has been reviewed and you will not be allowed to take the entrance test.
  4. Participation in the online test
    1. You will receive an e-mail with access data for the examination system 5 days before the entrance test
    2. Test access data Carry out a trial test!
    3. Register in good time on the day of the exam and take the entrance test
  5. Test result
    • After the entrance test, you will receive one of the following results. Log in to HISinOne to view the current status.
      1. Admission offer
        • You have received an offer for a place at the Studienkolleg. Register in the applicant portal and accept the admission offer by 1 September.
          If you do not confirm, you will lose your place!
      2. Admission offer currently not possible
        • If you pass the test, you will receive a recommendation for the BSIC in Eckernförde or the ISZ in Jena. If you do not pass the test, you will receive a recommendation to attend a language course.
  6. Apply for enrolment at the preparatory college
    • After you have accepted your offer of admission:
      1. Carry out online enrolment
      2. Indicate "exempt" in the health insurance details if you are privately insured
      3. Submit application
      4. Log out and log in again to receive information overview

Participants who already have an account in HISinOne at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences can log in with this data and reapply for the entrance test.

Accounts created in HISinOne via another college or university are not valid.

In order to take part in the entrance test at the Staatliches Studienkolleg in Nordhausen (in presence), it is necessary to successfully pass a pre-test.

The pre-test starts online at 10:00 CET.

Please do not send e-mails to register. These cannot be processed for technical reasons.

In the event of technical problems during the registration process, please contact e-mail to the Study Service Centre (SSZ).

Passing the pre-test is a prerequisite for taking the entrance test.

The pre-test consists of various C-tests, questions on German grammar, questions on reading comprehension, tasks on listening comprehension and questions on graphic analysis. There will be tasks to fill in and tick. After the German test, there will also be a maths test. You can use the examples provided as a guide.

The pre-test in German lasts 30 minutes. The pre-test for maths lasts 15 minutes.

Participants with an admission for the G-/S- or DSH course only take part in the German test.

Make sure you have a stable internet connection. We recommend carrying out the test on a PC or laptop; smartphones and tablets may have display problems.

You will be informed by email if you pass or fail the pre-test. Only if you pass the pre-test have you qualified for the entrance test and can travel to Germany to take part in the entrance test on site in Nordhausen on one day in the week from 12-16 January 2026.
