Get involved in the International Office, go on a stay abroad or take part in voluntary intercultural courses and in return receive the Certificate for Intercultural Competence.

Activities or achievements from 3 intercultural areas can be recognised. These include international study and work placements, intercultural courses and intercultural commitment. To obtain the certificate, activities or achievements in two of the three areas must be proven.

International study or work placements

As International study or work placements are study visits or internships abroad. These can be shown on your ZIK if you can provide proof of a stay of at least one semester (degree programme) or three months (internship) and have submitted a report on your stay to the International Office. For international students who did not obtain their higher education entrance qualification in Germany, studying at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences can also be recognised as an international study visit. In this case, too, a report on your experience should be written.

Intercultural courses

The area of Intercultural courses In addition to language courses, this also includes courses with explicit intercultural content. For example, participation in the international project week can be recognised as an intercultural course in the ZIK. Summer and winter schools also fall into this category. The prerequisite for recognition is that at least one extracurricular course is included (i.e. at least one course that is not prescribed in your study regulations). Intercultural commitment

As Intercultural commitment are all activities with a concrete intercultural connection that take place outside of the curriculum. This includes, for example, supporting international students in the Buddy Programme, actively helping to organise the international regulars' table or the Language Exchange Programme, or volunteering with external organisations (you can find tips and information on volunteering for and with refugees here). here). You should have carried out these activities for at least one semester.

NEW: All those who wish to spend one or more semesters abroad (study and/or internship) must have completed at least one semester of the Buddy programme prove.

In order for us to include your intercultural commitment in the ZIK, you should provide us with proof of your activities and a short reflection report on your commitment.

Intercultural training

In addition, everyone is required to take part in a Intercultural training. This is organised by the International Office of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences and takes place every semester. The dates will be announced in good time. Participation in the training is a prerequisite for the issue of the ZIK.

The following applies to all activities and achievements: they can only be shown on the ZIK if they were completed during your studies at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.

All activities and achievements are listed individually on the Certificate of Intercultural Competence. However, any grades awarded are not shown.

You will receive the certificate in two versions: in German and in English.

For the Intercultural Competence Certificate, the International Office responsible.

And this is how it works:

  1. You register for the Course "Certificate of Intercultural Competence" in Moodle on. This fulfils the formal registration and gives you access to all the necessary documents and forms for download.
  2. You take part independently in the activities and events that you would like to have recognised on the ZIK and have certificates of participation issued if necessary.
  3. Once you have collected all the supporting documents, fill in the application form. Then come to the International Office in person during opening hours (please bring all original documents with you).
  4.  We will check the application and inform you when the certificate is ready for collection.
