The high degree of self-determination is a fundamental characteristic of a professorship. You have a high degree of freedom in organising your research and teaching activities and in maintaining and initiating your networks.
Through your teaching activities and publications, you make a significant contribution to society. By passing on your knowledge to students, the faculty and the public, you play a key role in shaping your field of research.
Within your work, you can exchange professional and interdisciplinary information within the college and in particular by strengthening your networks.
The statutory recruitment requirements regarding the recruitment and appointment of professorial staff are set out in the Thuringian Higher Education Act (§§ 84, 85, 86 ThürHG).
Teaching accounts for a large proportion of the work of a professor at a university of applied sciences (UAS) with 18 teaching hours. Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences participates in the federal-state programme FH-Personal and grants its newly appointed professors reduced teaching loads. Alternatively, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences offers research tandems in which you can initiate joint research projects or publications with experienced university lecturers and receive a reduction in your teaching load.
Application-orientated research within your department is supported, as are interdisciplinary research projects and transfer activities. In particular, you will focus on social challenges for which you can identify and develop solutions. You will also present your expertise at topic-specific conferences and events and publish your findings in specialist journals, edited volumes and monographs.
You can find more information on the legal recruitment requirements in the Thuringian Higher Education Act from §83:

You can play an active role in the academic self-administration of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences within various committees.
Your involvement in bodies such as commissions, committees and in the faculty is in demand and is encouraged by the university management.
As part of the application process for a professorship, you will go through the appointment procedure with the aim of finding the best candidate for the advertised position.
Due to the high degree of formalisation, the appeal procedure is expected to take several months.
The appointment committee consists of members of the professorial staff, the academic staff, the student body and an external member. The Equal Opportunities and Family Officer, the person responsible for diversity and a member of the representative body for severely disabled employees are also involved in the appointment procedure.
After reviewing all application documents, the appointment committee invites suitable applicants to an interview. The purpose of the interview is to determine the applicant's professional, pedagogical and personal suitability. Among other things, the interview consists of a trial teaching event open to the university and a non-public interview with the appointment committee.
This interview focuses on personal motivation, non-specialist skills and potential within the department. Two external assessors are commissioned by the appointments committee to provide independent expert opinions on professional, pedagogical and personal suitability.
At the end of the procedure, the appointment committee draws up an appointment proposal consisting of a list of usually three people.
The person heading the appointment committee forwards the appointment proposal to the relevant department for a decision on the appointment list in the department council. After subsequent examination by the President and adoption of a resolution in the University Assembly, the appointment is made by the President.
The Handouts from the Federal Conference of Women's and Equal Opportunities Officers (bukof) provide further important information on appointment procedures.
