We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Aisha Kassia Salihu on being awarded the 2026 DAAD Prize, which is nominated annually by @hsn_international and awarded to international students at our university. 🎓✨
Aisha is from Nigeria and has been studying the English-taught Master’s programme in Environmental and Recycling Technology at our university since the 2024/25 winter semester. Not only does she excel academically with above-average results, but she is also particularly committed to social and intercultural engagement. 🌍
Since April 2026, Aisha has also been supporting the project „WORT Nord – North Thuringia: A Region Open to the World: Retaining Talent, Securing the Future“ in her role as a research assistant. She assists prospective international students and current students, provides support with queries relating to their studies and everyday life, and brings people from different backgrounds together. 🤝
This makes Aisha a great example of what makes our university special: people who get involved, help shape our university and contribute to an open and diverse campus. 💙

🎓 A festive start to university life! 💙
On 8 October, a new chapter began for 591 new students: we welcomed our first-year students for the 2026/27 winter semester to our university with two festive matriculation ceremonies in the Audimax. 🥳
The new students from the Faculty of Engineering kicked off the morning, followed at 11 am by the first-year students from the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences. Anyone who was unable to attend in person also had the opportunity to watch the ceremony via livestream. 💻
Alongside our university president, Prof. Dr Jörg Wagner, other representatives from the university, the town of Nordhausen, the district and the Students’ Council welcomed our new members to the university. 🎤
Leonard Ose on the clarinet and Marlis Ose on the piano provided the musical accompaniment for both events. 🎶
Afterwards, the first-year students were given welcome bags – filled with handy items for everyday student life, information leaflets, vouchers, snacks and little surprises. 🎁
Now student life begins, with new encounters, exciting projects and lots of first impressions on our campus. 💙

🎓Theory meets practice: Working together for the next generation of administrative professionals in the region!
Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences and the Nordhausen District Office are set to work even more closely together in future on practice-oriented degree programmes in the field of public management. 🤝
On 5 October, our university president, Prof. Dr Jörg Wagner, and District Administrator Matthias Jendricke signed a cooperation agreement regarding the Bachelor’s degree programme in Public Business Administration/Public Management (B.A.).

Are you involved in designing digital teaching and keen to consider inclusion right from the start? 💻🎓
This raises a key question: when does digitalisation act as a bridge, and when does it create new barriers?
Digital technologies open up new opportunities for participation and inclusive higher education. At the same time, they can exacerbate existing disadvantages or create new forms of exclusion.
It is precisely this area of tension that the „Digitalising Teaching Intersectionally“ fellowship project at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences addresses.
The project developed innovative teaching formats that not only address digital inclusion and exclusion in theoretical terms, but also enable students to experience them first-hand and reflect on them critically. These include a hybrid workshop, a digital disability obstacle course and an e-learning course in which people with disabilities themselves contribute their perspectives and experiences.
This shows that digital innovation is not automatically inclusive. Accessibility, participation and different life circumstances must be taken into account right from the start.
The new post on our Science Blog demonstrates how theory, self-awareness and participation can be combined in university teaching, and highlights the limitations of experience-based formats.

Since 2021, the @hochschulsozialarbeit.ndh (HSA) at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences has supported over 1,100 students facing difficult circumstances – whether due to mental health issues, financial worries or personal crises. Confidential, unbureaucratic, there for everyone.
The funding will come to an end at the end of the year.
Without further funding, this scheme is in danger of being scrapped.
There is now an official petition before the Thuringian State Parliament.
