Accompanied by LEG Thüringen, representatives of Satbayev University (Almaty, Kazakhstan) and its partners visited Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. In addition to exploring opportunities for cooperation, the programme also included a tour of the campus.
On 4 March 2025, the 5th cross-university conference "Universities in Transition - Shaping Health and Sustainability Together" took place in Gera. Around 60 representatives from Thuringian universities, including participants from Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, came together at the Gera-Eisenach Cooperative State University to discuss how the study and work environment can be made healthier and more climate-friendly.
Retaining highly qualified specialists in the region and integrating them into the labour market in the long term is one of the greatest challenges of our time. One example of how this process can succeed is provided by Indian student Karan, who has been studying for a Master's degree in Environmental and Recycling Technology (ERT) at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences since September 2023.
Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is actively committed to sustainability and the use of renewable energies. A visible sign of this has been the wind turbine on campus for around 20 years, which generates renewable electricity and feeds it into the campus network. Due to a technical defect, the cause of which could not be determined during an initial investigation, the turbine has now been dismantled in order to undergo thorough maintenance and repairs.
On 18 February 2025, the regional "Jugend forscht" competition for northern Thuringia took place once again at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. Young talents from the region presented their research projects and impressively demonstrated how exciting and diverse science and technology can be.
Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences and isoplus Fernwärmetechnik GmbH have signed a cooperation agreement that provides for close collaboration in the areas of research, teaching and practice. The agreement was signed by the President of the university, Prof Dr Jörg Wagner, and the Managing Director of isoplus Fernwärmetechnik GmbH, Alexander Langner.
The Regenerative Energy Technology Conference RET.Con brought together companies, professional associations and research institutions to present current developments and research results in the field of renewable energies and discuss them in a scientific context. The conference took place on 13 and 14 February 2025 at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.
Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is strengthening its team of professors in the Faculty of Engineering: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mürsel Yildiz will take up the professorship for "IT Security in Digitalisation" on 1 February 2025. The appointment was made by the President of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, Prof Dr Jörg Wagner.
Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences can look back on two extremely successful study orientation days. At the end of January, the university opened its doors to numerous pupils from regional secondary schools, who showed great interest and enthusiasm for the wide range of study options and campus life.
Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences and the Automotive Network Transformation Thuringia (ANeTT) have now officially agreed on a long-term collaboration. This cooperation is intended to strengthen regional innovation and further promote the exchange between science and industry.
An innovative workshop took place at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences on 10 January, which confronted mechanical engineering students in their first semester with business management issues. Under the direction of Julian Apel, Marlon Klusmeier and Moritz Münch, accompanied by the supervising lecturer Dr Christoph Brodhun, the participants came together to work on complex topics in a playful way using the creative Lego Serious Play method.

Like many other operators, the Mecklenburgische Bäderbahn (MBB), known for its historic steam locomotives, is facing the challenge of making its operations more environmentally friendly. A current study by Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is investigating whether and how MBB can switch its steam locomotives, which currently run on hard coal, to alternative, climate-friendly fuels. The aim is to significantly reduce CO2 emissions while preserving the historic character of the locomotives.
On 12 December 2024, the interdisciplinary symposium on the critical examination of toxic masculinity took place at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. Under the direction of Prof. Dr Petra J. Brzank, Prof. Dr Sabrina Schramme and Prof. Dr Stefan Kunde-Siegel, experts from various disciplines came together to shed light on and critically discuss the facets of hegemonic and toxic masculinity in ten exciting presentations.
