The Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences offers its students a university education that prepares them for work in companies, social and charitable organisations and the public sector in a practical and targeted manner.
Small seminar groups support practice-orientated learning.

Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences offers several engineering degree programmes with excellent career prospects.
Numerous contacts and collaborations with industry as well as research projects carried out on behalf of industry and business make the degree programmes particularly practice-oriented.
๐งโป๏ธ Screws instead of throwing them away!
Successful premiere! The Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences' Repair Centre welcomed visitors for the first time at its Open Day.
๐ ๏ธ The result is impressive:
โ
The fault was localised in 83 % of the devices brought along.
โ
Every second appliance was restarted directly on site.
Whether it was a computer mouse, toy robot, toaster or cordless screwdriver - together with experienced repair assistants, defects were examined and repair options identified.
๐ก The Repariertreff is an offer for self-help: repairing together instead of throwing away, conserving resources and avoiding electronic waste. ๐ฑโป๏ธ
๐
Next repair meeting:
๐๏ธ 10 June 2026
๐ 14:00-17:00
๐ Campus of the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences
๐If you would like to bring along a defective electrical appliance or bicycle, you can register in advance at register or ask questions.
โก๏ธ Make a note in your diary: The next meeting will take place on 8 July!

25 years of commitment to teaching, research and university life! ๐
Two long-serving employees at our university were honoured for their 25 years of public service. Our university president Prof Dr Jรถrg Wagner presented the certificates from the Free State of Thuringia and thanked both employees for their constant commitment.
๐ Congratulations to:
Simone Krauthรถfer, Administrative Business Economist (VWA), Team Assistant in the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Engineering, Institute of Computer Science, Automation and Electronics (IAE)
Michael Franz, Dipl.-Ing. (FH), Laboratory Engineer in the Department of Engineering Sciences, Institute of Computer Science, Automation and Electronics (IAE)
For a quarter of a century, both have been shaping everyday university life with their expertise, reliability and commitment - thank you very much for that. ๐
We look forward to our time together and many years of co-operation to come!

Diversity? Sounds like a big word at first. ๐
The Diversity Weeks turned this into something very tangible: encounters, discussions, new perspectives - and lots of hands-on activities.
๐ We kicked off with an energetic Zumba class that got everyone moving and in a good mood.
๐จ At the โWhat does diversity mean to you?โ workshop, students were able to record their thoughts, experiences and perspectives on a shared canvas.
The result shows that diversity has many faces - and every story counts.
๐งฉ One particular highlight was the democracy Jenga in front of the canteen. Each stone stood for a value on which our democracy is based.
If important building blocks are removed, the whole system begins to totter. A simple game with an important message.
๐ค At other stations, the focus was on teamwork, dialogue and self-reflection.
Whether at ladder golf or at the interactive stress management wall - the aim everywhere was to learn from each other and engage in dialogue.
A big thank you to everyone who made this day of action possible - especially the StuRa, the university social work, the diversity officers and the Prof X team. ๐
And that's not all: the Diversity Weeks continue.
Look forward to more workshops, talks and formats in June on diversity, equal opportunities and social participation.
โจ Because diversity is not created in a day. It grows where people listen to each other, share perspectives and shape the future together.
What does diversity mean to you? Write it in the comments.๐

๐ โWelcome, you're welcome to stay!โ
As part of the joint annual reception of @stadtnordhausen and @hochschule_nordhausen, the new ESF Plus project WORT Nord - Talente binden, Zukunft was officially presented on 27 May.
Around 80 representatives from business, politics, universities, administration, associations and initiatives came together in the Nordhausen council chamber to discuss the future of retaining skilled labour in the region.
The WORT Nord project focuses on a holistic approach: the aim is to connect international students and graduates from universities, vocational training and further education with companies, institutions and the region at an early stage and to make long-term future prospects in northern Thuringia visible.
๐ก Central realisation of the exchange:
Skilled workers stay where career prospects, social participation and a genuine welcoming culture come together.
The discussions and an interactive survey on site also showed that the following factors were considered to be particularly important for the future viability of the region:
โพ Visible career opportunities
โพ Support with starting a career
โพ Places of encounter
โพ Living a welcoming culture
โพ Strong networking between university, business and region
In future, a particular focus will be on formats such as the Intercultural Academy, which aims to strengthen qualifications, encounters and intercultural openness.
๐ค The kick-off shows: Northern Thuringia has strong prerequisites - now it's time to combine and utilise this potential together.

๐ Europe is becoming quantum-safe!
With the official launch of the trilateral infrastructure project QUANT-GPICz, our university, together with partners from Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, is setting a milestone for Europe's digital resilience and sovereignty.
๐ Together with leading research institutes, universities and companies, national quantum communication infrastructures (QCI) are being linked for the first time to form a trilateral backbone. This will create a cross-border network for secure communication between authorities, critical infrastructures and data centres.
The aim is to establish highly secure communication channels between Frankfurt, Berlin, Warsaw and Prague - protected by state-of-the-art quantum technology. The project marks a turning point in European cyber security.
๐ก Special highlight: the networking of terrestrial fibre optic networks with future quantum communication systems in space - an important building block for the European EuroQCI initiative.
๐ก The project builds on the successful results of Q-net-Q and strengthens Europe's digital resilience, cyber security and technological sovereignty.
QUANT-GPICz is being funded by the European Union and the Federal Ministry for Digital and State Modernisation with a total volume of around 18 million euros.
We look forward to actively shaping the future of secure communication in Europe!

๐๐๐ผWhat do a diary, a cat food bag and a nappy have to do with an ADHD diagnosis?
Babett Esche attempted to answer this unusual question during the opening event of the Diversity Weeks at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.
Babett took the audience on a journey through her life.
She wanted to sensitise the audience to the challenges in captivating and emotional images,
she experienced while navigating independence, setting up an animal welfare organisation and her role as a mother.
A full to-do calendar used to be no problem - until the point came when nothing worked any more.
In doing so, Babett created visibility for women with a late ADHD diagnosis and offered a new perspective on their own lives.
The lecture was deliberately intended to tell the story of ADHD from the perspective of those affected.
It was designed to encourage and strengthen the participants.
Even during this event, a wonderful dialogue developed in a pleasant atmosphere.
Finally, all those present were able to relax with a mindfulness exercise.
In this exercise, all the senses were activated while everyone savoured a dried apricot - but in a mindful way over a longer period of time.
When was the last time you ate a dried apricot or sultana with full mindfulness for more than ten minutes?
