All the facts at a glance

The way in which you have to apply depends primarily on which country you live in. your university entrance qualification (secondary school leaving certificate, assessment test, university entrance examination, proof of successfully completed periods of study) or your first university degree have acquired.

For international applicants it is possible to apply for a Bachelor's degree programme before the application deadline.
As it is often necessary to attend language courses or a preparatory college, we recommend a earliest possible Application.

Applications only need to be online be submitted. In the event of admission, however, the original application documents must be submitted for enrolment at the latest.
We reserve the right to request documents during the application process.

University entrance qualification/degree from Germany

Apply directly via the Application portal HISinOne of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.
This also applies to applicants who can prove that they have passed the assessment test of a German preparatory college.

University entrance qualification/degree from another country

Application initially only via uni-assist. There, your application will be reviewed by experts who specialise in the assessment of international degrees. Your documents will then be forwarded to Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. The university will then decide on admission. The examination of your documents by uni-assist costs 75 euros (30 euros for each additional application in the case of multiple applications).

For German-language Bachelor's or Master's degree programmes, the following Application documents required:

  1. Completely filled out online application on uni-assist
  2. University entrance qualification (school-leaving certificate, university entrance examination in the home country, proof of successfully completed periods of study or university degree certificate)
  3. if applicable, translations of the documents mentioned under 2. if these are not available in German, English or French
  4. APS certificate if applicable (only applicants from ChinaVietnam or India)
  5. If applicable, certificate of the assessment test or proof of attendance at a preparatory college (only if you have already attended a preparatory college in Germany)
  6. Certificates of knowledge of the language of instruction (minimum requirement for German: DSH 2, Test DaF 4×4 points, telc C1 Hochschule, Großes or Kleines Sprachdiplom) or Central upper secondary school examination of the Goethe-Institut; minimum requirement for English: TOEFL iBT 79 or IELTS 6.0, previously acquired degrees in English are also recognised as proof)

Simple copies of the above-mentioned application documents are sufficient and all documents can be submitted online via the Uni-Assist online portal.

If the application on uni-assist has not yet been activated for your desired semester start date, simply select an earlier semester start date. This can then be adjusted after admission.

And then?

A decision on the equivalence of your educational qualification is made on the basis of the assessment proposals of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs.

If the certificate is recognised as equivalent to the German certificate and sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction, you will be admitted directly to the programme.

Applicants who have at least B1 language skillsare granted conditional admission to the degree programme with the requirement to provide proof of C1 language proficiency before commencing their studies. German courses for applicants are available for a fee, for example at the Learning Studio Nordhausen. In addition, the Studienkolleg Nordhausen the opportunity to take the DSH exam as an external participant.

If the certificate is only partially comparable with the German certificate, you will receive conditional admission and must pass the "Examination to determine the suitability of foreign applicants to study at universities in the Federal Republic of Germany" (assessment test). Preparation for the assessment test usually takes place in a one-year course at the Studienkolleg Nordhausen.

When Can I apply?

Please submit your application by 30 April (Non-EU) / 30 June (EU) (for the following winter semester) or until the 30 November (Non-EU) / 31 January (EU) (for the following summer semester).

How Can I apply?

Interested exchange students should contact the International Office at their home university. They will then contact our International Office and let us know that you are interested in an exchange (you will be "nominated").

When we accept your university’s nomination, you can then apply step-by-step via our online application system “Mobility Online”. Data protection information in the context of the use of "Mobility-Online" and apply via our online application system:

After sending your application via the above mentioned link, please do not forget to register your application by clicking on the link in the confirmation E-Mail (also check your Spam/Junk-Mail folder) and follow the instructions. The Mobility-Online Portal will guide you step-by-step through the application process. Please note, that we can only process your application further, if all required information are filled properly and all required documents are uploaded. To complete the application, the following documents must be uploaded:

  1. Page with passport data
  2. 1 passport photo (in jpg format)
  3. Confirmation of registration in the Student residence
  4. Transcript of Records from your home university
  5. Thoska application
  6. Scan of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for students from Europe or proof of health insurance
  7. Learning Agreement (if not provided by the home university)

What language skills should I bring with me?

The language of instruction is generally German. However, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences also offers English-language courses to.

In order to be able to follow the lessons, we recommend that international students have at least B2 for German and/or English.

Please note that German representations abroad may require you to provide proof of sufficient language skills when applying for a study visa. In such a case, you must submit a recognised language certificate. We can neither test your language skills nor provide you with proof.
