Nordhausen is located in the Free State of Thuringiathe smallest of the new federal states. Around 2.2 million people currently live in Thuringia. The state capital is Erfurt.

Nordhausen is the largest city in northern Thuringia with a population of around 42,000. It is located on the southern edge of the Harz Mountains and close to the Kyffhäuser Mountains, Hainleite and Eichsfeld.

Founded in 927, the town has had a chequered history over the centuries with many fateful events.

Nordhausen is often referred to as the southern gateway to the Harz Mountains.

Cultural and social life in the city is characterised by, among other things, a TheatreCinema and the city library.

Nordhausen has a great old town centre, many restaurants, several churches, an art gallery with a beautiful park, museums (including the tobacco warehouse and the traditional distillery) and other attractive sights.

The Nordhausen bathhouse was opened in March 2001 as a fun and leisure pool. It offers a sports pool, whirlpools, relaxation pool, adventure pool, outdoor pool, lazy river and tube slide. There are also various offers for sauna fans: Log cabin sauna, saunarium, Finnish sauna, Roman steam bath and sauna roof garden.

Shopping facilitiessupermarket and bakery, for example, are located in the immediate vicinity of the campus.
