thoska is a Multifunction chip cardwhich can be used to make administrative and payment processes more efficient and customer-friendly. The invisible and contactless chip installed in the card enables the contactless transfer of data between thoska's partners and the user on the basis of Mifare technology. The Mifare chip consists of lockable "data drawers". For each "drawer", a secret "key" guarantees a high level of protection against access and misuse of the data.

What functions can I use with the thoska?

Library user card

To use the thoska as a library user card, it must be activated in the library.

Wallet

The wallet is an area of the thoska chip. A monetary value can be added to or removed from this area. This wallet can be topped up at special "top-up machines" by making a cash deposit or by debiting your bank card or credit card.

Your wallet transactions are free of charge.

The canteen tills have card readers that can debit a cash value from these wallets.

Where can I top up my wallet?

There is a cash machine in the canteen, as well as a cashless machine (EC and credit card). In the library, you can top up your wallet at the top-up machine using an EC card only.

How do I get the credit on my card back?

Please ask the canteen staff or the Student Service Centre for more information


Handling

Observe the following instructions when handling the thoska chip card to prevent it from being damaged or becoming inoperable:

  • The chip card must not be bent.
  • The chip card should not be kept in your back pocket or wallet. It is advisable to use an appropriate plastic cover for this purpose.
  • Avoid exposing the chip card to temperatures above 35°C. For example, do not leave it in the car glove compartment or on the shelf behind the windscreen in summer.
  • Please take care not to leave the chip card in your clothing, as this may expose it to a cleaning cycle in the washing machine.
  • The chip card must also not be used as an ice scraper.
  • The chip card should be kept clean. Please do not use the card and bring it into contact with food at the same time.
  • In short, the chip card should be handled with the same care as if it were a bank or debit card!

Since the beginning of the summer semester 2013, the semester ticket has consisted of the Thuringia ticket from DB Regio and the public transport ticket from the city of Nordhausen.

The public transport ticket of the city of Nordhausen is valid on all city lines (bus and tram), except line 10 from Bahnhofsplatz in the direction of Ilfeld.

Taking children with you

In local public transport (tram and bus services):

Children under the age of 8 are transported free of charge until they start school (1st day of school) and only when accompanied by an adult. From the time they start school up to and including the age of 14, children can use the Children's Single Journey, Children's Single Journey BahnCard and Children's 4-Trip Ticket fare products. School-age children can also use the fare products Student-Trainee Weekly Travelcard, Student-Trainee Monthly Travelcard and Student-Trainee Subscription.

On railway trains (Deutsche Bahn and private railways):

Holders of a Semesterticket Thuringia can travel with any number of their own children or grandchildren up to and including the age of 14 (so-called "family children"). Children between the ages of 6 and 14 must either carry a child ID card or be registered on the DB Family Card.

The balance on your card wallet should be treated like the contents of a physical wallet. If you lose it, unfortunately the money is gone too, unless the finder is honest!

My thoska is back!

For security reasons, we can only unblock recovered cards if you state your first name, surname and matriculation or personal number.

Experience has shown that it takes 1 to 2 days to unblock your card at the Studierendenwerk Thüringen and the library. Your card should then work as usual!

If a new thoska has already been issued in the meantime, the recovered card has only sentimental value - it can be not reactivated can be used. The credit balance on the recovered thoska is paid out.

Is it possible without thoska?

No. Since the winter semester 2008/09, the thoska has been the only student ID card issued.

Do I need a new thoska every semester?

No. Once you have received your thoska, it will accompany you throughout your time at the university. There is a rewritable area (thermal strip) on the lower part of the card. After your re-registration, you can have this area rewritten with the current end of validity and the study programme data (validation) by using the self-service terminal.

Do I have to apply for the thoska?

Yes, the card must be Application form and a passport photo.

What to do if there is no validity imprint on the card?

Newly issued chip cards for students must be labelled with a Validity imprint be labelled. This imprint (validation of the card) can be done by the student at the validation machine in the foyer of building 18. If the validity note on the thoska is not correct (e.g. no semester ticket), please contact the Service Point.

What to do when the expiry date is reached?

With the thoska this is End of validity (= end of semester) and stored in the chip. When re-registering for a subsequent semester, the end of validity is then updated at the self-service terminal using the "Renew validity" function. This only happens after payment of the semester fee and activation by the Student Secretariat.

Where is the terminal for validation?

The terminal for validation is located in the Foyer of house 18 in front of the SSZ.

I am not at the university. How do I update the validity?

You are not in Nordhausen and the validity date of the card has expired. You have already re-registered for the new semester by paying the semester fee. What can you do now?

What does the thoska cost?

The Thoska costs one-off € 20. This amount is charged together with the semester fee on first enrolment at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.
Replacement card:
In accordance with the university's fee regulations, a fee of 10.00 euros will be charged if the card is lost or mishandled.

How do I validate the wallets on the thoska when I leave the university?

It is recommended to use up the credit on the Studierendenwerk wallet (canteen, washing machines) and the credit on the Copy wallet.
