On 27 March 2025, the "Domestic Gypsum Raw Materials Innovation Day" was held at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences to discuss the future of gypsum supply. Over 130 participants - on site and online - discussed innovative approaches and strategies for securing the supply of gypsum against the backdrop of the planned coal phase-out by 2038 at the latest, which will result in the end of FGD gypsum. The expert meeting was initiated by the Bundesverband der Gipsindustrie e.V. in cooperation with the Verein für Regionalentwicklung e.V. and Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, which has relevant expertise in the field of raw materials research and is endeavouring to actively help shape this change.
Technology is exciting - numerous girls were able to experience this first-hand on this year's Girls' Day at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences on 3 April. One example of how this process can succeed is provided by Indian student Karan, who has been studying for a Master's degree in Environmental and Recycling Technology (ERT) at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences since September 2023.
Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is actively committed to sustainability and the use of renewable energies. A visible sign of this has been the wind turbine on campus for around 20 years, which generates renewable electricity and feeds it into the campus network. Due to a technical defect, the cause of which could not be determined during an initial investigation, the turbine has now been dismantled in order to undergo thorough maintenance and repairs.
On 18 February 2025, the regional "Jugend forscht" competition for northern Thuringia took place once again at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. Young talents from the region presented their research projects and impressively demonstrated how exciting and diverse science and technology can be.

The Regenerative Energy Technology Conference RET.Con brought together companies, professional associations and research institutions to present current developments and research results in the field of renewable energies and discuss them in a scientific context. Like many other operators, the Mecklenburgische Bäderbahn (MBB), known for its historic steam locomotives, is facing the challenge of making its operations more environmentally friendly. A current study by Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is investigating whether and how MBB can switch its steam locomotives, which currently run on hard coal, to alternative, climate-friendly fuels. The aim is to significantly reduce CO2 emissions while preserving the historic character of the locomotives.
On 12 December 2024, the interdisciplinary symposium on the critical examination of toxic masculinity took place at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. Under the direction of Prof. Dr Petra J. Brzank, Prof. Dr Sabrina Schramme and Prof. Dr Stefan Kunde-Siegel, experts from various disciplines came together to shed light on and critically discuss the facets of hegemonic and toxic masculinity in ten exciting presentations.
