"HSNgo" - Certificate programme in preparation for the university entrance examination

The "HSNgo" certificate programme is a fee-based course of study that enables prospective students with an indirect international university entrance qualification to prepare for the university entrance examination at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.

The certificate programme comprises modules for German, mathematics, English, intercultural regional competence and one module each for the future field of study: economics, social studies or physics, depending on the admission criteria (school-leaving certificate from the home country) and the choice of Bachelor's degree programme.

An application for "HSNgo" in preparation for the university entrance examination opens the way for you to study at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences in the Complete Bachelor's programme. However, please bear in mind that your Abitur certificate is decisive for your choice of degree programme. (e.g. a subject-restricted Abitur in economics and humanities in your home country only allows admission to a degree programme in economics or social sciences).

Start: The course starts in the winter semester 2025/2026 on 1 October.

Duration of study: two semesters.

Application deadline: until 30 September 2025

Costs: for all modules 12,000 euros, plus semester fee - you are already enrolled on the certificate programme and enjoy student status at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.

Information on the university entrance examination

Prospective students who have successfully completed their studies at an educational institution abroad or have acquired a foreign higher education entrance qualification that entitles them to study in their home country have the opportunity to take this examination at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.

Passing this examination entitles you to study in a specific degree programme or a related degree programme exclusively at the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.

In order to carry out this examination, the university has Articles of Association issued. This regulates all the requirements that applicants must fulfil/prove.

How is the university entrance examination organised?

Depending on the subject area of the degree programme, the following examinations must be completed in accordance with the T-course or W-course of the Staatliches Studienkolleg and in accordance with the statutes:

Partial oral examination

In addition to the written examinations, an oral examination must also be taken. Only those who have passed all written examinations will be admitted to the oral examination.

The person to be examined should demonstrate that they have the necessary communication skills in a technical language context and that they are comprehensibly and reflectively motivated for the intended degree programme. The oral part of the examination may cover the content of the written part of the examination.

The oral part of the examination lasts between 15 and 30 minutes per candidate. Up to three candidates can be examined together.

Application for the university entrance examination

The application for the university entrance examination can be annually from 01.04. to 15.07. via the Online application portal of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. Anyone who fulfils the following conditions may be admitted to the examination:

  1. Proof of a foreign higher education entrance qualification which, according to the assessment proposals of the Central Office for Foreign Education at the Secretariat of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany, does not directly entitle the holder to study at a higher education institution in Germany,
    2. indication of the degree programme for which the university entrance qualification is being acquired (the degree programmes offered by Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences can be found at Bachelor - Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences)
  2. has received a conditional admission from Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences for the chosen degree programme (if this already exists)
  3. has not already participated twice unsuccessfully in an entrance examination at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences in accordance with these statutes on the university entrance examination for persons qualified outside Germany,
  4. Language skills at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in the language of the respective degree programme (German for all Bachelor's degree programmes), proof of certificate
