Youth research is a nationwide competition for young talent aimed at pupils and students who enjoy researching, experimenting and inventing. The aim is to get young people interested in maths, computer science, natural sciences and technology and to find and promote talent. If you want to take part, you have to find an interesting question for your research project. Creativity and innovation are what counts.
Young people up to the age of 21 can take part in the competition (alone or in teams with a maximum of three students).
Participants must be in at least 4th grade in the year of registration. For students, registration is only possible in the year in which they start their studies.
Further information on the national competition can be found at www.jugend-forscht.de.
Youth research junior (previously: Schüler experimentieren) is the junior division of the Jugend forscht competition. All young researchers who are not older than 14 on 31 December of the registration year take part. Younger pupils who wish to take part must be in at least 4th grade.
With Youth research junior there is no national final. In this category, the round usually ends with the state competition, for which all regional winners qualify. The federal states of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saarland are an exception. There, only regional competitions take place in the junior division.Â
In exceptional cases, outstanding projects in the Schüler experimentieren category can be upgraded to the Jugend forscht category by the jury of the regional competition. The prerequisite for this is that it is the best project in a particular subject area across all categories. The project will then be honoured with the regional victory in the Jugend forscht category.
The Nordhausen Student Research Centre is always happy to provide support in implementing ideas.
