University President Prof. Dr Jörg Wagner appointed Viola Sporleder-Geb as Professor of Constitutional and Administrative Law at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences today, 22 August 2023. She will take up her professorship on 1 September 2023. Prof Dr Stefan Zahradnik, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences, which the professor will strengthen in the future, was also present at the appointment ceremony.

Born in Göttingen, she studied law in Göttingen and Vienna and, after completing her doctorate in municipal constitutional law, initially worked as a lawyer for the Federal Customs Administration. Most recently, she held a position in the municipal administration of Osterode am Harz as a legal advisor. Parallel to her professional activities, she has held teaching positions at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and trained trainee lawyers. Thanks to her wide-ranging experience in federal administration, local government and university teaching, she brings with her an extensive range of knowledge. As a former scholarship holder, she would also like to become involved in the promotion of gifted students and recognise and promote talent at an early stage.

Two focal points that are particularly close to Prof Dr Sporleder-Geb's heart are:

• The strengthening of democracy: This includes, in particular, improving the quality of administrative training in order to strengthen trust in the state. Recent studies have shown that this trust has decreased considerably in recent years.
• The area of environmental law: Here, she wants to give the future administrative specialists the necessary sensitivity and tools for everyday administrative work.

Viola Sporleder-Geb expressed her excitement about her new position: "I am very much looking forward to networking both nationally and internationally, especially in light of my two main areas of specialisation. Expanding my contacts and the creative freedom offered to me at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences are particularly important to me."
