Summary of the project

Building on the intensive preliminary work of the University Medical Centre Freiburg in the field of education and training in psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy at multiple mental health centres in China over the past 10 years, a project for further training in psychotherapy for China has been designed together with the University Medical Centre Freiburg and the Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH). The aim of the project is to establish PUMCH as a reference centre for psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy in China with a focus on patient care, further training in psychotherapy and research relevant to the Chinese context in the field of mental health. This is to be achieved through the following measures:

  1. Professional and didactic qualification of doctors and psychologists
  2. Establishment of a curriculum for further training in psychotherapy in the field of psychosomatic medicine
  3. Networking and steering meetings
  4. Accompanying research

The project is scheduled to run for four years and provides for the further training of two groups of doctors and psychologists, each with 15 participants. At the end of the project, 30 doctors and psychologists should be professionally and didactically qualified to carry out state-of-the-art psychotherapy and to continue teaching the curriculum in the future. On the German side, the project was applied for by Prof. Dr Markus Bassler from the Institute for Social Medicine, Rehabilitation Sciences and Health Services Research (ISRV) at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, in close cooperation with Prof. Michael Wirsching and Prof. Kurt Fritzsche from the Psychosomatic Clinic at Freiburg University Hospital. The cooperation partner in China is Prof Jing Wei from the Department of Psychological Medicine at Peking Union Medical College Hospital.
