Summary of the project

Here, the workpiece is manufactured as a whole so that no post-processing in the sense of joining different frame parts takes place. The advantages of this process are, on the one hand, that the carbon fibre is not weakened by joints and the frame therefore has a lower weight with the same mechanical properties and, on the other hand, that the manufacturing costs are lower, which leads to cheaper production. As part of the project, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is developing and numerically testing a layer plan for production. In addition, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is testing samples that have been produced using the new manufacturing process and evaluating them in terms of their physical properties. The aim is to develop a time trial frame with a favourable aerodynamic shape and a weight of less than 1000g.
