He addressed the future requirements for social managers in social economy organisations and related these to the training and development of specific skills as part of the social management course at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences (HSN). The focus of his scientific analysis was the question of the extent to which the simulation game learning format as a practice- and problem-orientated instrument is suitable for promoting the competences described. Following an analysis of the structure, modules, regulations and special features of the degree programme, the focus was placed on practice-oriented and interdisciplinary teaching and learning methods and the theory of the simulation game (in the degree programme) was presented with a description of the phases, opportunities, challenges, the role of the game leader and the relevance of reflection, culminating in a draft concept for a research-oriented simulation game in the methodological section. Mr Mangels was able to make a special connection between his own studies and his degree.
