As a rule, students and graduates of the Bachelor's degree programme are involved in the implementation of the projects. Public Business Administration / Public Management (PuMa) and the Master's programme Public Management and Governance (PMG) integrated. The students are guided and supported by the Members of the Institute.
The Institute of Public Management and Governance can support students' practical phases within the programme, for example with case studies. By participating in the projects, students and graduates are able to gain in-depth insights into municipal practice. The invitation to participate is seen as appreciation and special support.
During their studies, our students have to complete various pieces of work of a scientific nature.
Students on the Bachelor's degree programme in Public Business Administration / Public Management, for example, must complete an internship during their first semester of practical work experience. Internship report in which a legal topic related to the respective area of responsibility of the internship authority is to be worked on. In addition, in the 5th or 6th semester, a Student research project by the students. Students can choose between specialising in business administration or administrative law. The degree programme concludes with the Bachelor thesis. This must be completed during the second work placement semester. For this reason, practice-related topics from the respective work placement organisations are usually selected and worked on.
Students on the Master's degree programme in Public Management and Governance complete their studies by completing the Master thesis examination. In this examination, they must demonstrate their ability to work independently on a topic of their choice from the public sector.
The case study collection "Managing and shaping - case studies on public management with exercises and solutions" contains seven case studies that address typical tasks and problem situations in a city administration and offer concrete proposals for solutions with detailed explanations.
Topics include the introduction of the new municipal finance system, marketing in e-government, conducting an employee survey to investigate the organisational climate and the possibilities of location marketing through e-government.
A special feature of these case studies is that the task areas and problem situations are described throughout from the perspective of the employees of the model municipality "Mittelstadt" constructed for this book. In addition, the problems that the administration of "Mittelstadt" has to deal with are mainly taken from the authors' diploma and bachelor theses, all of which were students at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.
The case study collection is suitable for study and further education in the fields of public administration, public business administration and public management. The focus is on the municipal level.
