Heidelberg Parent Training

As a trainer in the Heidelberg Parent Training Programme (HET), you will learn how to support parents in specifically promoting their children's language development.

Recommendation: Take part in the training programme in pairs from one institution. This will make it easier to familiarise yourself with HET and experience has shown that implementation in the early intervention centre is quicker and more sustainable.

What is Heidelberg Parent Training?

Heidelberg Parent Training (HET) is a certified course for early language support for children with delayed language acquisition. Parents learn how to promote their children's language development through targeted interactions in everyday life. The course is based on a scientifically sound concept that is recommended as an effective measure in the current S3 guideline.

Fields of work

Graduates of the "Heidelberg Parent Training for Early Language Development" certificate course can work as HET trainers in early intervention centres, kindergartens, speech therapy practices or other educational institutions. They are able to carry out parent training and support families in the language development of their children.

Heidelberg Parent Training (HET) is a proven method for promoting early language development in children with delayed language acquisition. It was developed by Dr Anke Buschmann and tested for its effectiveness in scientific studies. The training is aimed at parents of two to three-year-old children, so-called "late talkers", and enables them to support their children's language development in everyday life through targeted language-promoting interactions.

HET is a tried-and-tested intervention that has been used successfully in early intervention centres, special education centres and speech therapy practices for over ten years.

Training to become a HET trainer

In the Basic module (2 days) presents the background to HET, its content and framework conditions. You will learn the methodology of co-operative and systematic collaboration with a small group of parents. Many elements of HET can also be used in your own child-centred work in the context of early intervention.

In the Practical module (2 days), the actual implementation of the HET is practised together. To this end, the participants each familiarise themselves intensively with one element of the HET. This enables intensive learning and anticipation of typical difficulties in parent training programmes. In addition, the video interaction analysis used in HET is discussed in detail.

In the Advanced module Multilingualism (1 day) you will learn how to conduct the additional session for multilingual families, which parents attend before the HET. In this two-hour session, the handling of the different languages is discussed and parental questions on this topic are answered in detail. This is important so that the parents can then concentrate on learning the language-promoting strategies during the HET and are not constantly faced with the question of which language they should use to communicate with their child. This workshop can also be held with parents who are not taking part in HET.

The seminar price includes a comprehensive package of materials for carrying out the HET (video clips, photo cards, worksheets to print out, material for the whiteboard).

The seminar price includes a material box for the realisation of the parents' workshop on multilingualism.
