The degree programme
Social work and trauma pedagogy is an application-orientated field of action within social work that deals with supporting and accompanying people who have experienced traumatic events. This field combines theoretical knowledge from social work with practice-oriented methods of trauma education to ensure the psychological stabilisation, social integration and promotion of resilience of those affected.
This degree programme is offered in cooperation with the Gera-Eisenach Cooperative State University.
Graduates of the Master's degree programme in Social Work and Trauma Pedagogy are qualified for management and specialist positions in various fields of psychosocial care.
This includes activities in counselling centres, crisis intervention facilities, facility management, but also in specialised services for children, adolescents and adults with psychosocial impairments due to trauma-related disorders.
They are also able to work in scientific research, in the design and evaluation of trauma management programmes and in the training and supervision of professionals.

The Master's degree course in Social Work and Trauma Education (M.A.) at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with the Gera-Eisenach Cooperative State University offers in-depth, practice-oriented training for professionals who want to work with traumatised people in psychosocial institutions.

The Master's degree programme in Social Work and Trauma Pedagogy offers a comprehensive education that provides both theoretical knowledge and practice-oriented skills in key areas such as trauma pedagogy, supervision and the management of social organisations. At the same time, they qualify students for managerial positions in psychosocial organisations, where the knowledge acquired is applied and deepened in various specialist areas. From the basics of trauma pedagogy and the consolidation of social science methods to specific aspects of pedagogical relationship management and legal principles, a broad spectrum of topics is covered that optimally prepares students for their future tasks.

The Accreditation Council accredited the degree programme without any conditions until 30 September 2029 on the basis of the ACQUIN agency's assessment report and the expert panel's proposed decisions. The individually organisable course of study, the practical orientation with regard to intervention methods and diagnostics as well as the balanced examination load are particularly noteworthy.
The trauma pedagogy modules of the degree programme are certified by the Fachverband Traumapädagogik (FVTP) and the Deutschsprachige Gesellschaft für Psychotraumatologie (DeGPT).

The Scholarship programme of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research supports skilled workers with vocational training and several years of practical experience in their first academic degree programme.

For a Full-time study programme scholarship holders receive 992 euros per month plus 80 euros book allowance (i.e. a total of 1,072 euros) and 3,045 euros per calendar year for part-time study. The benefits are a lump sum and independent of income.
