It is a degree programme with a clear engineering and technical focus. The two specialisations Geotechnical Engineering and Environmental and Recycling Engineering represent the main directions in the investigation, identification and remediation of environmental problems.
In the Environmental and Recycling Technology specialisation as an engineering discipline encompasses process engineering, physical, biological, chemical and thermal material conversions as well as knowledge of process sequences, e.g. recycling, wastewater treatment and apparatus and plant engineering. It is used both in the production of industrial goods and in the recycling of materials. Process engineering is characterised by a scientific approach.
The educational objectives are orientated towards regional as well as supra-regional and international needs of the private and public sector. The degree programme comprises a combination of compulsory and elective modules and can be completed in two specialisations after the engineering fundamentals.
The first part of the programme (semesters 1 and 2) teaches the basic engineering knowledge. This includes engineering mathematics, physics, chemistry, materials science, technical mechanics, electrical engineering and, of course, environmental engineering. The second stage of study (semesters 3 to 6) is characterised by the chosen specialisation and is aimed at the targeted development of specialist expertise.
In the Geotechnics specialisation The basic methods of civil engineering are taught in relation to the special requirements of construction in soil and rock. Starting from engineering geology, approaches to the planning and realisation of geotechnical structures are developed, taking into account mathematical-physical relationships. The course is characterised by a strong connection to real projects.
The additional interdisciplinary programme (economics, law, foreign languages) guarantees a competent and career-orientated profile as a Bachelor of Engineering.
