  • 3 semesters for students with a Bachelor's degree of 210 ECTS credits. (Start in the summer semester is recommended)

  • 4 semesters for students with a Bachelor's degree of 180 ECTS credits (including one qualifying semester). (Start in the winter semester is recommended)

Admission requirements:

To be admitted to the programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:



  • A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, energy technology, renewable energy technology or a related field.

  • A minimum CGPA of 2.5 (according to the German grading system) or better.

  • English language skills at level B2 (e.g. TOEFL iBT 79 or higher, IELTS 6.0 or higher).

  • APS (Academic Achievement Certificate) for applicants from India, China or Vietnam.

Over the course of three or four semesters, you will learn about key technologies, innovative solutions and the integration of renewable energies into existing systems. This will prepare you to tackle global energy challenges and contribute to a cleaner, greener world.

Information about the degree programme

The programme offers a comprehensive mix of core and elective modules covering a wide range of topics essential for the development of renewable energy expertise. The course structure is designed to provide students with both fundamental knowledge and specialised skills in renewable energy technologies.


For students with 180 ECTS, the qualification semester includes basic courses such as Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering, Fundamentals of Thermodynamics, Introduction to Renewable Energy Systems, Scientific Work, Cultural Studies and Scientific Writing as well as German as a Foreign Language.



  • In the 1st semester students deepen their knowledge of bioenergy systems, project management, life cycle analysis, Power-to-X and elective subject 1, and continue their studies in German as a foreign language.

  • The 2nd semester focuses on advanced topics such as photovoltaic systems, wind turbines, solar thermal laboratory, a science project and elective subject 2.

  • The 3rd semester is dedicated to the preparation of the Master's thesis and its presentation and defence (colloquium).


The electives offer a variety of topics such as fuel cell technology, bioengineering and numerical methods in heat and mass transfer as well as computer-aided (process) engineering, so that students can tailor their education to their individual interests in the field of renewable energies.

This programme is aimed at students with a background in engineering or related fields who have a passion for renewable energy. It is ideal for those who aspire to leadership roles in the energy sector - be it in research, industry or public policy.
