This degree programme combines knowledge of science and technology with a passion for teaching. From the Winter semester 2026/27 Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences offers the new Bachelor's degree programme „STEM for mainstream schools“ on. The degree programme has a Standard period of study of six semesters and can then be used with a four-semester Master of Education e.g. at the University of Erfurt will continue. It is already possible to gain entry there to study Mathematics and Economics & Technology. Work is currently underway on the entry requirements for Physics and Computer Science. This means it is possible to embark on a standard teacher training programme in Thuringia.
The degree programme comprises a Two-subject training with a major and a minor subject.
The main compartment can be Mathematics, Computer Science or Economy & Technology can be selected.
As a minor subject - in addition to these three subjects - there are also Physics for selection.
The degree programme is aimed at anyone who has a keen interest in mathematics, computer science, physics or technology and would like to pass on this knowledge with pedagogical commitment. Anyone who enjoys working with young people and wants to play an active role in shaping education will find the right path to a meaningful and future-proof career here.
After the Bachelor's degree, the teacher training programme can begin with the Master of Education, mainstream school can be continued at the University of Erfurt. This enables regular entry into the teaching profession in Thuringia. Graduates are urgently needed in STEM subjects - the career prospects are therefore excellent. Anyone who enjoys teaching can start a secure and fulfilling career in the teaching profession here.

What is the difference between studying at a University of Applied Sciences (UAS) and at a „Universität“ (university)? At our University of Applied Sciences, you will receive much more support throughout your learning process than at a traditional university. We provide self-assessment questions to help you check your understanding, offer practical exercises to deepen your knowledge, and encourage a high level of interaction in lectures and seminars. This is very different from courses with more than 300 students.
