From the winter semester 2026/27, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences will offer the new Bachelor's degree programme „Teaching STEM for mainstream schools“ (Bachelor of Science). With this degree programme, the university is expanding its profile in the field of teacher training and responding to the demand for qualified teachers in STEM subjects.

The six-semester Bachelor's degree programme lays the foundation for teacher training in the STEM field and, in conjunction with a Master of Education, leads to the teaching profession for mainstream schools. The programme is geared towards the subsequent Master of Education (mainstream school) at the University of Erfurt, which is followed by the preparatory service.

The degree programme is designed as a two-subject course. Mathematics, Computer Science or Business & Technology can be chosen as the main subject. A combination with a minor subject is also possible; physics can only be studied as a minor subject.

In addition to academic training, the degree programme emphasises an early practical orientation. The degree programme is supplemented by school-based internships, including an orientation internship and an educational science internship, which are usually completed during the semester break.

The Bachelor's degree programme „Teacher training in STEM subjects for mainstream schools“ has a standard duration of six semesters (180 ECTS) and is offered as a full-time degree programme.

Applications for the winter semester 2026/27 are possible from 1 April to 30 September. Admission to the degree programme is not restricted. The prerequisite for admission is a university entrance qualification; a pre-study internship is not required. Tuition fees are not charged.

The study and examination regulations as well as the module descriptions are currently being prepared and will be published in good time before the start of the programme.
