We lecturers of the MA TSA organise the content of the modules in a participatory manner with the students and look forward to accompanying you on your way to your Master's degree. We attach great importance to attentive and mutually constructive and appreciative cooperation. The content of the programme is discussed in the group, deepened in group settings and taught in exercises. We are therefore pleased to offer you a study programme in which you and we can experience each other directly.
The degree programme is divided into nine compulsory modules and three elective modules from a wide range of options, which are spread over three semesters and enable you to study the relevant subject areas and specialisations in depth
It also includes working on a topic of your choice as part of a Master's thesis.
First and second semester:
- Fundamentals of clinical social work: This module deepens your knowledge of the fundamentals of social work, especially in a clinical context. You will learn diagnostic methods that you can apply in your future professional practice.
- Case Management: You will acquire comprehensive knowledge in dealing with complex case studies and learn how to coordinate and lead interdisciplinary teams.
- Social therapeutic intervention methods: Here you will expand your skills in psychosocial counselling and also in (psycho-) therapeutic methods in theoretical and practical terms.
- Processes in social therapy practice: The module focuses on the processes of methodological action in relation to working with groups, integrating exercises with self-awareness and self-reflection.
- Participation in social work: Your ability to think and act in a participation-orientated way is expanded here through reference to the ICF diagnostic tool and social law content.
- Promotion of mental health: In addition to deepening knowledge of mental disorders and impairments, this course focuses on the various possibilities of influencing these through social therapy using suitable methods as part of interventions.
- Qualitative and quantitative research methods: These modules prepare you to conduct social science research independently, to understand empirical studies and to learn scientific thinking and action as an essential feature of clinical practice.
Third semester:
- Master's thesis: In the final semester of the degree programme, you will concentrate primarily on writing your Master's thesis. You will realise a question of your own choice in an independent research project, which is supported by an accompanying seminar.
You can choose one large elective module (4 SWS) per semester to customise your studies, for example:
- Therapeutic social work and traumatisation,
- Therapeutic social work with children and young people
- Therapeutic social work in addiction counselling or
- Therapeutic social work and sexuality.
Or you can choose two small elective modules (2 SWS) per semester, such as
- Methods of self-care (certificate of participation in Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction MBSR possible)
- Deepening methodological skills (video feedback training, systemic tools or other exciting approaches),
- Exercises for case reflection or
- the option to work on an individually selected topic relevant to you, which can be studied in depth over the course of an entire semester.
Through the didactic diversity that characterises the course, you will acquire both a professional, social therapeutic attitude and the necessary social work habitus. Through discussions, group exercises, (self-) reflection and self-awareness, you will get to know yourself as the most important tool of therapeutically orientated social work. You do not have to fear passive listening in the context of lecture-style courses or the uniform processing of study letters.
