Practical experience
Excursions play an important role at the university and Social Management degree programme This allows students to get to know social organisations from the inside during their studies and gain an insight into practice right from the start. Visits to a wide variety of social organisations (especially on site) often take place as part of regular courses. But as a special highlight, there is an annual central excursion week, which also allows you to visit unusual non-profit organisations throughout Germany.
The list of organisations we have visited in recent years includes the headquarters of the WWF and Greenpeace, the Arche, Viva con Aqua, the Rauhe Haus, large umbrella organisations, the Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Werkstätten für Menschen mit Behinderung and small projects such as Strassenkids e.V., the Erfurt Women's Centre, Inobhutnahmestelle Schlupfwinkel combined with culture and impressive guided tours. From conversations on the street during a visit to a homeless project in Hamburg, Berlin or Leipzig to discussions in the plenary hall of the district administration office in Nordhausen - excursions provide interesting and varied insights into the practice of different organisations.
The excursions in the degree programme are planned and organised by the student council together with the internship coordinator, so the ideas and interests of our students are incorporated right from the start. The close cooperation with the Health and Social Work degree programme in the planning and organisation of the excursions also ensures a broad selection of different social organisations: This makes it possible to put together a varied, individual programme.
