Are you interested in environmental protection and are you looking for a technical degree programme with a scientific focus? Then the Environmental Engineering degree programme at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is just right for you. Here you can expect a practical education that not only provides you with theoretical knowledge, but also offers you numerous opportunities to apply it directly in modern, well-equipped laboratories. Exciting internships and practice-orientated courses will give you valuable insights into the application of environmental engineering processes.
On field trips, you will familiarise yourself with large-scale plants and see first-hand how resource-saving technologies work in practice. The degree programme is technically demanding and prepares you to develop innovative solutions for a sustainable future. After graduating, you will have a wide range of career prospects, be it in engineering offices, resource management companies, research institutions or public administration. With your knowledge, you can actively contribute to making our environment more efficient and advancing sustainable technologies.
It is a degree programme with a clear engineering and technical focus. The two specialisations Geotechnical Engineering and Environmental and Recycling Engineering represent the main directions in the investigation, identification and remediation of environmental problems.
In the Environmental and Recycling Technology specialisation as an engineering discipline encompasses process engineering, physical, biological, chemical and thermal material conversions as well as knowledge of process sequences, e.g. recycling, wastewater treatment and apparatus and plant engineering. It is used both in the production of industrial goods and in the recycling of materials. Process engineering is characterised by a scientific approach.
The educational objectives are orientated towards regional as well as supra-regional and international needs of the private and public sector. The degree programme comprises a combination of compulsory and elective modules and can be completed in two specialisations after the engineering fundamentals.
The first part of the programme (semesters 1 and 2) teaches the basic engineering knowledge. This includes engineering mathematics, physics, chemistry, materials science, technical mechanics, electrical engineering and, of course, environmental engineering. The second stage of study (semesters 3 to 6) is characterised by the chosen specialisation and is aimed at the targeted development of specialist expertise.
In the Geotechnics specialisation The basic methods of civil engineering are taught in relation to the special requirements of construction in soil and rock. Starting from engineering geology, approaches to the planning and realisation of geotechnical structures are developed, taking into account mathematical-physical relationships. The course is characterised by a strong connection to real projects.
The additional interdisciplinary programme (economics, law, foreign languages) guarantees a competent and career-orientated profile as a Bachelor of Engineering.
The ideal applicant will have a general or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification or technical college entrance qualification and be interested in environmental and climate protection, environmentally friendly planning and the sustainable development of our immediate environment from a technical perspective.
Interest and a good understanding of STEM subjects are an advantage; however, these can also be taught via customised courses at the beginning of the degree programme.
When applying for a Bachelor's degree programme, you must upload a simple copy of your higher education entrance qualification (Abitur certificate or other suitable certificates in PDF format) after registering in the applicant portal.

What is the difference between studying at a University of Applied Sciences (UAS) and at a โUniversitรคtโ (university)? At our University of Applied Sciences, you will receive much more support throughout your learning process than at a traditional university. We provide self-assessment questions to help you check your understanding, offer practical exercises to deepen your knowledge, and encourage a high level of interaction in lectures and seminars. This is very different from courses with more than 300 students.
