Environmental Engineering (B.Eng.)

Are you interested in environmental protection and looking for a scientific and technical degree programme? You've come to the right place!

What is environmental engineering?

Environmental engineering helps companies to work sustainably and economically through innovative technology. The focus here is on resource conservation, the generation of renewable energy, the recycling of materials and the preservation of biological diversity.

Due to the profiling, the focus is either on geotechnical engineering or environmental and recycling technology.

Fields of work

With a degree in environmental engineering, you can work in the planning, development and implementation of sustainable technologies and concepts. You will optimise recycling processes, analyse environmental pollution and develop solutions for the protection of water, soil and air.

In companies, engineering offices or public administration, you will support projects for resource conservation, environmental impact assessments and sustainable infrastructure. Your work may focus on the development of new processes for the circular economy, the use of environmentally friendly technologies or the monitoring of environmental regulations.

In research and development, you will have the opportunity to design innovative materials and sustainable production processes. With your knowledge, you will actively contribute to solving global environmental problems and shaping a future that conserves resources.

Are you interested in environmental protection and are you looking for a technical degree programme with a scientific focus? Then the Environmental Engineering degree programme at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is just right for you. Here you can expect a practical education that not only provides you with theoretical knowledge, but also offers you numerous opportunities to apply it directly in modern, well-equipped laboratories. Exciting internships and practice-orientated courses will give you valuable insights into the application of environmental engineering processes.

On field trips, you will familiarise yourself with large-scale plants and see first-hand how resource-saving technologies work in practice. The degree programme is technically demanding and prepares you to develop innovative solutions for a sustainable future. After graduating, you will have a wide range of career prospects, be it in engineering offices, resource management companies, research institutions or public administration. With your knowledge, you can actively contribute to making our environment more efficient and advancing sustainable technologies.

It is a degree programme with a clear engineering and technical focus. The two specialisations Geotechnical Engineering and Environmental and Recycling Engineering represent the main directions in the investigation, identification and remediation of environmental problems.

In the Environmental and Recycling Technology specialisation as an engineering discipline encompasses process engineering, physical, biological, chemical and thermal material conversions as well as their synthesis into process sequences and apparatus and plant construction. It is used both in the production of industrial goods and in the recycling of materials. Process engineering is characterised by a scientific approach.

In the Geotechnics specialisation The basic methods of civil engineering are taught in relation to the special requirements of construction in soil and rock. Starting from engineering geology, approaches to the planning and realisation of geotechnical structures are developed, taking into account mathematical-physical relationships. The course is characterised by a strong connection to real projects.

The additional interdisciplinary programme (economics, law, foreign languages) guarantees a competent and career-orientated profile as a Bachelor of Engineering.

The ideal applicant will have a general or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification or technical college entrance qualification and be interested in environmental and climate protection, environmentally friendly planning and the sustainable development of our immediate environment from a technical perspective.

As a graduate of the Environmental Engineering degree programme, you will have numerous career prospects in a forward-looking field:

  • Consultancy and consulting companyin which you develop sustainable concepts for environmental and resource management
  • International and national resource management companiesthat promote innovative recycling processes and resource-saving production methods
  • Construction and implementation companiesin which you are involved in environmentally friendly construction projects and sustainable infrastructures
  • Engineering offices for planning, project planning and project developmentwho develop sustainable solutions for technical challenges
  • Process and environmental engineering companies as well as project planning and plant constructionwhere you develop and implement innovative environmental technologies
  • Public institutions of municipalities, federal states and the federal governmentin which you plan, support and implement environmental concepts
  • Public and private research institutionsin which you work on new technologies and resource-saving processes
  • Authorisation and control authoritiesresponsible for compliance with environmental standards and sustainable development

This degree programme will qualify you for a dynamic and versatile professional field in which you can play an active role in shaping a sustainable future.

When applying for a Bachelor's degree programme, you must upload a simple copy of your higher education entrance qualification (Abitur certificate or other suitable certificates in pdf format) after registering in the applicant portal.
