The Student Research Centre lends teachers and group leaders various materials free of charge to help them discover STEM. In the table below you can see our current range. The experiment boxes were developed by witelo e.V. from Jena in collaboration with schools in Jena and are continuously being developed further by the Thuringia Student Research Centres. The boxes contain the necessary material for experimenting on a specific topic. Experiment instructions, worksheet templates and an inventory list are also included.
At the bottom of the table you will find further material, such as learning robots or method kits, which can also be borrowed from the Student Research Centre.
If you have any questions or would like to borrow items, please contact Dr Agnese Fazio (+49 157 788 68 069 | ).
If you are not in Nordhausen, the boxes can also be handed over at other locations.

7 | What material is that? | The box contains all the materials needed for an in-depth experiment on the topic of substances. Different substances (powders and liquids) are investigated for their properties, e.g. odour, appearance, dissolution behaviour in water, etc. | 2 | 8 | 8-10 pupils can experiment at the same time. | 1 | Yes | Chemistry |
10 | Separate colours | The box contains all the materials needed for further experiments on the subject of colours. Using the example of various felt-tip pens, it becomes clear that the ink of fibre-tip pens is often a mixture of different dyes. | 2 | 7 | Material for 4 groups of pupils. | 2 | Yes | Chemistry |
12 | Life in a drop of water | The box contains all the materials needed for further investigations on the topic of water. The pupils can take water samples from different bodies of water themselves and analyse them for microfauna and flora. | 4 | 12 | At least 8-10 pupils can experiment at the same time. | 1 | Yes | Environment/Biology |
15 | Starch detection, starch extraction | The box contains all the materials needed for introductory experiments on the topic of starch. Pupils can extract starch from potatoes themselves and analyse and observe starch in various foods. | 2 | 10 | 8-10 pupils can experiment at the same time. | 1 | Yes | Chemistry |
16 | Solar cells with plant colours | The solar cell developed by Michael Grätzel uses a principle similar to photosynthesis: energy conservation through plant dyes. The experiment box contains all the materials required to produce a so-called "Grätzel cell". | 8 | 12 | Around 10 - 12 pupils can experiment at the same time. | 1 | Yes | Physics/Chemistry |
17 | Colourful Germany | How many colours are needed to colour in a map so that no two countries have the same colour as their neighbours? This question can be answered by systematically trying out different coloured Germany puzzles. | 1 | 10 | About 6 pupils can puzzle at the same time. | 1 | Yes | Puzzles |
