Summary of the project

Despite the broader international discourse on GovTechs in administrative practice, their diffusion in the German administrative ecosystem is still in need of significant development and has hardly been systematically analysed. In order to approach the challenges of the diffusion of GovTechs at municipal level in Germany, the market in which GovTechs operate will first be analysed in more detail. The market analysis will be supplemented by analysing the company and product development of selected German GovTechs.

In our project, we are investigating whether and how exactly start-ups with a strong connection to the public sector that are actually in demand on the market contribute to the dissemination of innovative approaches to municipal task fulfilment. We also analyse which key milestones GovTechs are confronted with during the development process and how these milestones are dealt with.

The aim of the project is to use scientific standards to describe the potential of GovTechs to develop innovative solutions for the fulfilment of public tasks and to understand the environmental conditions necessary for this. Key findings are to be shared for the first time with the scientific community and administrative practice in the form of suitable publications.
