10 June 2026

On 17 June 2026, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will host this year's Engineering Day. The member universities of the Thuringian Engineering Sciences Alliance THÜR ING will also be represented on this special day, demonstrating their joint strength in research, teaching and transfer.

The THÜR ING alliance unites seven Thuringian universities - the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences, the Gera-Eisenach Cooperative State University, the Ilmenau University of Technology, the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena, the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, the Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences and the Bauhaus University Weimar. As a platform for cooperation and strategic development, it promotes exchange between the partner universities and jointly strengthens the engineering sciences in Thuringia.

At the centre of the presentation is the ProTELC project, which has been implemented since 2021 with funding from the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Science and Culture and will run until the end of 2026. The aim of the project is to provide engineering students with targeted support throughout their entire course of study - from orientation to the successful start of their studies and the transition to their career.

ProTELC supports the recruitment of students with a variety of measures, helps to reduce drop-outs, improves academic success and facilitates entry into professional life. The programme is cross-university and benefits students from all seven Alliance universities.

The Science Camps start even before university: They introduce pupils interested in STEM subjects to engineering in a fun and practical way and provide exciting insights into studying in Thuringia. At the beginning of the degree programme, preliminary courses help students brush up on their school basics. Later on, refresher courses, mentoring formats and science camps for Bachelor's and Master's students supplement the programme. Companies from the region are also actively involved and contribute to the practical nature of the programme.

Another important component of ProTELC is the support for career entry. An app has been developed for international graduates that clearly explains the application process in Germany and provides valuable guidance. Company visits and „Alumni Stories“ provide additional insights into successful career paths and create authentic role models for the transition into professional practice.

Many of the measures developed in the project have already proved successful and are to be continued beyond the end of the project. The science camps in particular have been very popular because they deepen knowledge, create contacts and inspire young people to study engineering programmes.

On 17 June 2026 visitors to the Engineering Day at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will have the opportunity to choose between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to talk to employees of the ProTELC project at the presentation stand and find out more about the work of the THÜR ING alliance.
