On 11 October, the President of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr Jörg Wagner, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Rector of the Universidad de Antofagasta, Prof. Dr Marcos Cikutovic Salas, in the presence of the Thuringian State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Science and Digital Affairs, Carsten Feller, in the northern Chilean coastal city of Antofagasta. This laid the foundation for possible student and teacher mobility in teaching and research as well as joint teaching and integrated double degree programmes for the two state universities with a regional focus.

Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences has a wealth of potential for cooperation among its professors, as several of them are fluent in Spanish. In this respect, the trip by the President of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is a further step towards deepening cooperative relationships and contacts in Latin America.

The signing ceremony was followed by talks at the Universidad Católica del Norte.

President Wagner is a member of the science delegation accompanying Thuringia's Minister President Bodo Ramelow on an official delegation trip to Chile this week in his capacity as President of the Bundesrat, together with other representatives from the Bundesrat, Thuringia's state parliament and state chancellery, as well as from the business community. The TMWWDG is also represented on the trip and at the kick-off talks by the State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Higher Education and Digital Affairs, Carsten Feller.

As part of the delegation's trip, Professor Wagner will be holding further talks this week in Santiago de Chile at the Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, as well as establishing contacts with the Chilean Conference of University Rectors (CRUCH) and the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID).
