Prof Dr Thomas Hühn will take up the Chair of Communication Technology and Bus Systems in the winter semester and is now strengthening Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences with his expertise.

Born in Weimar, he has already taught at the TU Berlin and the University of Applied Sciences for Telecommunications Technology in Leipzig in the field of Communication Systems. He has also worked on numerous research projects - in Ilmenau, Dresden and Berlin as well as in South Korea, Canada and the USA.

Professor Hühn studied industrial engineering with a focus on computer engineering at the TU Ilmenau and completed his doctorate in 2013 in the field of optimisation of data rates and transmission power of WiFi wireless networks at the TU Berlin under Prof. Anja Feldmann. To this day, his research is focussed on this area and he is also involved on a voluntary basis in promoting the expansion of OpenWrt Linux-based WiFi networks in rural regions of Thuringia together with the Freifunk community. Since 2008, he has been a founding member and board member of the Thuringian co-operative "Evernet eG", which is involved in setting up alternative networks in rural areas.

With his wide-ranging experience in network design and management of today's Internet service providers, he would like to arouse students' curiosity in his teaching with system-relevant problems and conduct research into the optimisation of wireless networks at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.
