On 25 July 2023, Sondershausen-based K-UTEC AG Salt Technologies (K-UTEC) signed a contract with Valentin Köthe, a dual student in the field of environmental and recycling technology at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. In doing so, the company is focussing on promoting young talents who deal with interdisciplinary methods of raw material extraction and the recycling of raw materials as well as the protection of the environment.

Valentin Köthe is studying on the "Environmental and Recycling Technology - URT Praxis PLUS" course, which will now offer a dual study programme with in-depth practical experience from autumn 2023. The programme combines theoretical knowledge from the university with practical experience from the company, providing an ideal foundation for employment in the industry.

The Environmental and Recycling Technology degree programme deals with a variety of relevant topics that are crucial for a sustainable future. These include new technologies for the extraction and utilisation of secondary raw materials, such as the recycling of electronic devices, as well as the generation of energy from waste, for example through the use of biowaste or substitute fuels. The programme also focuses on processes to reduce air pollution, wastewater treatment and technical measures for water, soil and noise protection.

Representatives of K-UTEC were present at the signing of the contract, including board member Dr Sebastian Lüning and Robert Quensel, M.Sc., project manager for process and backfilling technology in the Mining, Geomechanics, Backfilling department.

The wide range of environmental and recycling technology illustrates the diverse challenges facing our society. K-UTEC sees the collaboration with Valentin Köthe as an opportunity to promote talented young people and to train a specialist engineer at an early stage to meet the requirements of their company in practice. The close cooperation with educational institutions such as Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences enables K-UTEC to jointly shape the future in terms of sustainable resource utilisation.
