Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences opened its doors to visitors for the first time on the Open Day on 30 May 2026. The result: the repair assistants were able to locate the fault in 83 per cent of the devices brought in, and half of all devices could be repaired on the spot.

The range of defects brought along was broad: Cordless screwdrivers, toasters, toy robots, computer mice - visitors brought along things that no longer worked at home. Some of the devices could not be repaired despite the fault being localised because spare parts were either unavailable or disproportionately expensive.

The Repariertreff at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is a self-help programme: anyone who wants to repair electrical appliances or bicycles can get to the bottom of the defect together with experienced repair assistants. The aim is to use things for longer, conserve resources and avoid electronic waste.

The next repair meeting will take place on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, from 14:00 to 17:00 on the campus of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. Anyone wishing to bring a faulty device can register in advance by email or ask questions:

The next meeting is planned for 8 July.
