The reception was opened by the President of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, Prof Dr Jörg Wagner. In his speech, he welcomed the guests, including the Thuringian Minister President Bodo Ramelow and the Chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the Thuringian state parliament, Prof Mario Voigt. In their welcoming addresses, both guests of honour emphasised the importance of cooperation between the city, the university and the state government for regional development and scientific progress.

Special mention was made of the support from the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society and the European Regional Development Fund. Thanks to this support, the Thuringian Innovation Centre for Recyclable Materials could be further expanded. Innovative recycling strategies are being developed here, which should make an important contribution to environmental protection in the future.

Lord Mayor Kai Buchmann also addressed the audience. He emphasised the many years of successful cooperation between the city of Nordhausen and the university and highlighted the future joint projects that will contribute to further strengthening the region.

The event offered guests the opportunity to view the multi-sorting plant and the projects of the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences transfer centre. The university's dual study programmes, which are already being used by over 20 companies, are particularly noteworthy. In his speech, Prof Dr Wagner also called for participation in the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship to support committed students.

With 30 Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes, a high proportion of third-party funding and outstanding teaching, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences makes a significant contribution to securing skilled workers and application-oriented research in Thuringia. Prof. Dr Wagner emphasised the importance of the university as a partner for business and society and reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, openness to the world and a strong Thuringia.

The evening ended with a convivial get-together, where guests had the opportunity to chat over good food and drink and watch the football match between Germany and Hungary.
