The aim is to strengthen the engineering sciences by offering supplementary courses for students of engineering degree programmes that can be used across universities throughout the entire student life cycle.
Expected benefits: Increase in motivation to study, interest in studying, study satisfaction, study success and strengthening of graduates' labour market skills.
Each sub-project will be led by two universities, with all other Alliance universities also being involved. The programmes from the ProTELC project are made available across all locations on the online learning platform "Glocal Campus".

Summary of the project

Sub-project 1: Phasing IN - study start

At the beginning of an engineering degree programme, (online) preliminary courses are designed to help prospective students connect with the basic subjects in the first semesters. Online competency tests are intended to support the orientation of new students. The sub-project Phasing IN/pre-courses is being led by TU Ilmenau and Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.
The Phasing IN / Orientation Studies sub-project analyses available concepts for an engineering orientation course and develops proposals for implementation concepts in Thuringia. This sub-project is being led by the TU Ilmenau and the Bauhaus University Weimar.

Sub-project 2: Studying Successfully - higher semesters

Refresher courses, mentoring and science camps are designed to support academic success and motivation. Refresher courses are designed to refresh previously acquired (basic) knowledge so that it can be called upon in the higher semester. An engineering mentoring programme is intended to support underrepresented groups of people in STEM subjects to successfully complete their studies. The sub-project Studying Successfully / refresher courses and mentoring is being led by the Bauhaus University Weimar and the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences.
The Science Camps are intended to give outstanding students of engineering degree programmes at Thuringian universities the opportunity to network and acquire specific knowledge and skills through inter-university, interdisciplinary project work. The Science Camps are organised under the leadership of Bauhaus University. They are hosted by various Thuringian universities at the end of the summer and winter semesters.

Sub-project 3: Phasing out - final semester

This sub-project is concerned with strengthening the labour market skills of students in the final phase of their studies. In particular, graduates with foreign university entrance qualifications are considered here. The Phasing Out sub-project with modules on key competences and the contact point for SMEs in the region is being led by the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena and the Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences.
