Possible applications:

The equipment in the laboratory offers students in the Department of Engineering the opportunity to deal with current image processing tasks from industry and research in a practical way. Both commercial and open-source image processing software is used (vision tools from Matlab and LabVIEW, free library OpenCV). The different tasks of industrial image processing, such as

  • Optical tracking,
  • Segmentation,
  • Completeness check,
  • Pattern recognition,
  • Object measurement,

but also face recognition and stereoscopic vision can be familiarised with and examined in the laboratory using the hardware listed below.

Cameras:

  • Digital industrial camera Sony DFW-VL500 (IEEE-1394 Firewire Camera),
  • Pi cameras and lenses,
  • Webcams with fixed and variable focal lengths (Logitech C170 and C920),
  • Basler acA640-90uc (CCD),
  • SLR camera Olympus E-410.

Other devices:

  • Oscilloscopes, power supply units and function generators
  • Tilting table with servomotors
  • Positioning table with linear motors
  • Data acquisition cards PCI-MIO-16E-4 and DAQ-Card-6024E for PCMCIA
  • Raspberry Pi
  • Phoenix Contact PLC
A technical device in a laboratory for image processing. On a table there is a frame made of metal profiles with a fixed camera pointing at a test sample with different colours, shades of grey and markings. The test sample lies on a white surface and cables connect the camera to other devices outside the image.
Laboratory apparatus for image processing
A laboratory room with several pieces of technical equipment and computers. In the foreground is a large structure made of metal profiles, which is used for image-processing experiments. Several workstations with computers and laboratory equipment can be seen in the background. The workstations are equipped with chairs, and various electronic devices and tools are distributed on the tables and shelves. The laboratory environment is clean and well organised.
