The IAE will pool expertise in these areas and thus raise the profile of Nordhausen UAS as a nationally recognised educational institution and partner in research and development. The institute is responsible for the degree programmes "Internet - Technology and Applications", "Automation and Electronics Engineering", "Computer Engineering" and "Energy and Environmental Informatics".
The founding members are Prof. Dr rer. nat. habil. Frank-Michael Dittes, Prof. Dr Klaus-Peter Neitzke, Prof. Dr Christian Siemers, Prof. Dr Ralf Tosse, Prof. Dr Matthias Viehmann, Dr Jürgen Buchham and Dipl.-Ing Peter Tabatt.
At the recent official foundation of the institute, which was opened by the Vice President for Research, Prof. Dr Viktor Wesselak, there were words of welcome from the Mayor of Nordhausen, Dr Klaus Zeh - himself a specialist in the field - and from the President of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr Jörg Wagner. The guests were also treated to a lecture on "Ambient Assisted Living - the Internet and demographic change" by Prof Dr rer. nat. Jochen Seitz from Ilmenau University of Technology.
Lord Mayor Dr Klaus Zeh described the foundation as a small milestone that will pay off in the long term. The President of the UAS, Prof. Dr Jörg Wagner, also emphasised the advantages of pooling expertise in this way. Instead of acting separately, the individual departments can now jointly address technical issues, exchange ideas and support each other. This form of co-operation will be particularly useful in future research projects - in the form of interdisciplinary research and development.
In addition, the newly launched institute will coordinate teaching for students, provide a common umbrella for staff and ensure a cohesive external image.
The newly founded student council IAE (Computer Science, Automation and Electronics) even presented a small, self-made founding gift: a striking arrangement with light-emitting diodes - a symbol of the institute's radiance.
