Home | Daycare centre dismantling in eastern Germany: Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences offers new prospects for skilled workers
25 June 2025
While many regions in Germany are still desperately looking for nursery school teachers, drastic changes are looming in parts of eastern Germany: daycare centres are having to close, skilled workers are being rescheduled or are facing a career reorientation. As recently reported by ntv, the "dismantling is almost unavoidable".

Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences offers attractive further academic qualifications, particularly for educational professionals who want to reorganise themselves in response to these developments. With its Bachelor's degree programmes in "Curative Education (B.A.)" and "Social Work and Health (B.A.)", it specifically addresses people with professional experience in the social sector - even without a high school diploma, provided they have the appropriate qualifications.
"Many of our students come from a practical background and want to qualify specifically for new fields of work in inclusion, social work or health promotion," explains Prof. Dr Andreas Seidel, head of both programmes. "We see the current upheaval as an opportunity for professional development and social progress."
Both degree programmes are practice-oriented, part-time and can be studied online - ideal for people who have work or family commitments. At the same time, the degree programme not only opens up new career prospects, but also enables greater involvement in key social issues such as inclusion, psychosocial health and educational work.
Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences does not charge tuition fees. Prior achievements from training or work experience can be credited towards the degree programme.
