When you do something for the second time, you can't yet speak of a tradition. But the summer school definitely has the potential to become one. Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences once again has the opportunity to send two students with a background in recycling technology to Slovenia at the end of September.

Stadler's technical centre is located there, where around 20 students from 10 universities operate a sorting plant for recycling plastic waste themselves. Of course, this is done under the supervision of experts from various renowned companies in the recycling industry; after all, there is a lot to learn. All participants have the opportunity to make new contacts and have an exciting week. "It was a great time; any time again!" says Markus Heiselbetz, one of last year's participants.

Thanks to the excellent organisation and financial support of the partners, students can take part virtually free of charge. All that is required within the university is a letter of motivation; a selection process then chooses up to two people from among the applicants to represent Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. "This summer school is real-life practice; it couldn't be more practical," reports Prof Dr Michael Rutz, one of the coordinators.

Prof. Uta Breuer, Dean of Studies for the Bachelor's degree programme Environmental and recycling technologyis enthusiastic: "This format fits in very well with our practice-orientated approach; the students don't just learn something from us in theory. The background to this is the new approach to studying with the Praxis Plus qualification. Students work together with companies from the very first day of their degree programme. Everyday study life is basically that of a "normal" student; between semesters, students can work in companies and institutions, which also resolves the issue of financing their studies.
