15 October 2024

On 22 October 2024, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, in cooperation with the Anne Frank | Frankfurt Educational Centre, is hosting a special lecture in the Audimax and online stream. Entitled "One year after 7 October", the lecture will look back on the events following the Hamas terrorist attack, the start of the war in Gaza and Israel and the social consequences.

During the event, Samuel Stern will look at the following questions: What has happened since then? What have we observed? How has the discourse in Germany developed? What challenges and pitfalls have arisen for us as a society and for educational work that is critical of anti-Semitism and racism? What are we missing? The escalation of violence in the Middle East conflict has fuelled anti-Semitism in Germany. The real threat to the lives of minorities in Germany has already become clear with the attacks in Halle and Hanau. Since 7 October 2023, the number of anti-Semitic attacks has risen sharply. Samuel Stern provides an overview of current developments and talks about the social and state responsibility to ensure physical safety and the free practice of religion. He also addresses the challenges of making all experiences of suffering and persecution heard in this situation, both Jewish and Palestinian.

The event is aimed at students, employees and all interested parties. It will take place on 22 October 2024 from 18:00 to 19:30 in the Audimax at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences and will also be livestreamed on the university's YouTube channel: YouTube channel of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.
