Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences welcomes a new professor to its ranks.

Prof. Dr Markus Sauerwein will now teach on the Bachelor's degree programmes in Health and Social Work and Curative Education. He specialises in social work with a focus on child and youth welfare. He lives in Kassel and was most recently Professor of Theories and Methods of Social Work/International Social Work at the Fliedner University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf.

Prior to this, he studied the diploma programme in social work/social pedagogy with a focus on education and the master's programme in empirical educational research at the University of Kassel. This was followed by a doctorate at the Goethe University Frankfurt a.M. on the subject of "Quality in educational settings of all-day schools - Or on teaching research and social pedagogy".

Professor Sauerwein worked at the DIPF | Leibnitz Institute for Research and Information in Education and was a scholarship holder at the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, where he is now a liaison lecturer.

In 2019, he received an award for the best article by a young researcher in the Zeitschrift für Erziehungswissenschaften. The title of the article is: Participation in all-day schools - in-depth analyses.

Research topics that are particularly close to Markus Sauerwein's heart are

  • Cooperation between youth welfare services and schools (especially all-day schools)
  • the area of professionalisation and deprofessionalisation
  • Care leavers
  • Education in the context of child and youth welfare
  • Dialogue between science and practice
  • Primary schools with annexes/small primary schools and their importance for children in the social environment
  • Specialised didactics in social pedagogy

In addition to his teaching, he will continue to dedicate himself to these topics in the future.
