30 April 2026

Nordhausen. On 30 May 2026, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences invites you to its campus from 1 pm to 6 pm. Science should have a direct impact in the region. Under this guiding principle, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is presenting special offers in the field of GreenTech and sustainability at its Open Day. Whether it's a repair meeting, an energy check or an insight into the degree programmes.

The personal energy check

Does a photovoltaic system make sense for me now that I've bought an electric car? The Institute for Regenerative Energy Technology (in.RET) offers a special tool to answer this question: The team uses the EnSyS tool for energy system modelling to create a calculation that will make your decision easier. This software can be used to visualise individual energy scenarios: If you know your annual household electricity consumption and bring it with you, you can work with the scientists to calculate which combination of photovoltaics, storage, heat pump or grid connection suits your own situation. „We make it possible to plan the energy transition on your own screen and show how the switch to renewables can be achieved in practice for each individual home,“ says Christoph Schmidt. The offer is expressly aimed at all interested parties - no specialist knowledge is required.

Repairing instead of disposing

In the Transferwerk mobile showroom, you will find an all-day repair centre for small electronic devices and bicycles. „Repairing is environmental protection in action. We want to show that many things are far too good for the bin and how you can save valuable resources in everyday life with a little self-help. Anyone who has a broken table lamp, a blender with a loose connection or a bike with a worn derailleur can simply bring it along - we will repair it together, without prior notice. The programme highlights a principle that the university pursues in its research into resource conservation and the circular economy: What can be repaired does not have to be bought new. Sometimes a software update or an alternative open source solution can help.

Sustainability as a cross-cutting issue at the university

The two programmes show how Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences approaches teaching and research. Sustainability should not only be considered in theory, but also applied in practice. The Thuringian Innovation Centre for Recyclable Materials ThIWert and the Nordhausen Resource Institute ResIn will also be represented at the open day with information stands about the degree programmes and will provide an insight into their work.

The Open Day also offers an extensive programme: all degree programmes will be presented, laboratories will open their doors and professors will give talks on current topics from research and practice. Guided tours of the campus start at 15:30 and 16:30. The full programme is available online at www.hs-nordhausen.de/tdot available.
