Theatre production „stille hunde“ sheds light on the fate of a teenager under the Nazi regime

On 10 November 2025 at 18:00, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, in cooperation with the Scientific Association, invites you to a special staged reading as part of the HSN-Impulse event series: The theatre production stille hunde under the direction of Prof. Dr Viola Sporleder-Geb will present the impressive reading „Die Besserung“ in House 19, Lecture Hall 1.
The play tells the story of fourteen-year-old Franz, who was arrested by the Nazi authorities in 1942 as a „prowler“ and sent to the Moringen youth concentration camp after several escape attempts. His fate is embedded in a storyline in which two sons uncover the long-concealed secret of their fathers' imprisonment in a concentration camp - and learn about the existence of the Moringen youth camp for the first time.
The haunting reading combines historical authenticity with a sensitive artistic portrayal and invites the audience to engage with a hitherto little-known chapter of German history.
The evening will be particularly enriched by the director of the Moringen Concentration Camp Memorial, who will provide an in-depth insight into the historical background and significance of the Moringen youth concentration camp.
Following the reading, the Academic Association of Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences invites you to a small snack and to a joint discussion.
