When Yuwei Chang came to Germany from Tianjin, China, in 2017, she was looking for new experiences and educational opportunities. She chose Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences for her bachelor's degree in environmental and recycling technology, a decision that would pave the way for her career and life in Germany.

After successfully completing her Bachelor's degree in 2020, Yuwei continued her academic journey at Clausthal University of Technology, where she deepened her knowledge in the Master's programme in Environmental and Recycling Engineering. This further education ideally prepared her for her future career. Her connection to Nordhausen, the city where she spent her first three years in Germany, is deep and emotional. "Nordhausen offers the perfect mix of a liveable environment and excellent study conditions," says Yuwei. She particularly appreciates the city's tranquillity and pleasant pace of life in contrast to the hustle and bustle of large metropolises. The good transport links and proximity to nature make Nordhausen an ideal place for students and professionals.

Today, Yuwei Chang works at the Nordhausen District Office and the Thuringian Innovation Centre for Recyclable Materials (ThIWert) at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, where she supports research projects. At ThIWert she is working on the "RC-Poro-Gypsum-Plates" project and at the District Office she is involved in the "CarboMass" project. Her decision to start her career in Nordhausen reflects her appreciation for the city and its community. Yuwei's story is a great example of how international students can not only develop their academic and professional potential in Germany, but also build a deep connection with local communities.
