Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences today welcomed around 610 new students who have enrolled for the winter semester 2025/26. This means that the university has almost doubled the number of first-semester students compared to the previous year - a strong sign of the attractiveness of the degree programmes on offer in Nordhausen.

The matriculation ceremony took place in two consecutive events - separately for the Faculties of Engineering and Business, Economics and Social Sciences. Both events were opened by Prof Dr Cordula Borbe, Vice President for Studies and Teaching at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. Marie Krehan from Studierendenwerk Thüringen also welcomed the new students.
The first semester engineering students were greeted by Prof. Dr rer. nat. habil. Mario Schölzel, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Hildegard Seidel, Honorary Alderwoman of the City of Nordhausen, and David Starke from the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences Student Council.
Another special item on the programme was the awarding of the DAAD Prize 2025 for outstanding achievements by foreign students. This year's prize went to Mr Nicson Jacobo Andrade Lugograduate of the Bachelor's degree programme in Electrical Engineering. Klaus-Peter Neitzke, Head of the Electrical Engineering degree programme, and Daniel Harder, DAAD Stibet I Project Coordinator from the university's International Office, delivered the laudatory speech.
Prof Dr Stefan Zahradnik, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences, and Stefan Nüßle, 1st Deputy Mayor of the District of Nordhausen, gave welcoming speeches on behalf of the first-semester students of Business, Economics and Social Sciences.
The welcoming ceremonies were accompanied by music from the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences choir under the direction of Thomas Hofereiter.
Afterwards, the new students received the popular "Ersti Bag" from University Marketing as a traditional welcome gift. This is filled with useful information flyers, vouchers and merchandise items to make the start of their studies easier.
Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences warmly welcomes the new members of the university community and looks forward to accompanying them on their academic journey.
